The centerpiece of Dialogue on Disability week is a FREE screening of PERFECTLY NORMAL FOR ME on Tuesday, January 15, 6pm at the Little Theatre (240 East Avenue). In this intimate verité documentary, four charismatic kids strive for acceptance in a world that is often, at best, indifferent to them. You’ll meet Alexandria, Jake, Caitlin and Veronica, ages 5 to 15, who want to change the conversation. They reveal in their own words what it’s like to deal with the literal ups and downs of a challenged life. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director Catherine Tambini via Skype. No tickets required. Seats are first come, first served. Along with prime-time specials, news reports, and community conversations on Connections with Evan Dawson, we are hosting a free screening of Perfectly Normal For Me, which spotlights a group of exceptional children who teach us about perseverance, inclusion, and self-acceptance. It screens at the Little Theatre on Tuesday, January 15 at 6 p.m. (You’ll find details about the film on the cover and a list of special programming on the following pages.) The vital work of Dialogue on Disability has also served as a model for our Move to Include initiative. Al Sigl and WXXI envisioned a project with even bigger community impact and together we worked with the Golisano Foundation to create Move to Include, a project that encourages thoughtful discussion about issues of inclusion and the differently-abled year round. Coming up from WXXI and the Little Theatre, two much-anticipated new seasons premiere on WXXI-TV in January: Jeanna Coleman returns as Queen Victoria in an all new season of Masterpiece’s Victoria and Martin Clunes is back for an 8th season as the brash Doc Martin. In celebration of those two series, WXXI is presenting a sneak peek of the first episode of EACH at the Little Theatre! On Sunday, January 6 at 11 a.m., you can watch the season premiere of Victoria, then on Monday, January 14 at 6 p.m., it’s Doc Martin’s premiere.
