The Project will be known as the 500MW Wawa Pumped-Storage Hydropower Project owned by Olympia Violago Water and Power, Inc. (OVPI), a joint venture between San Lorenzo Ruiz Builders (SLRB) and Hydreq. The power plant will be located within the Wawa River Basin and Montalban River Sub-Basin with the lower reservoir located in Montalban River, which feeds to the Wawa River, and an upper reservoir located in Mt. Purro. About a kilometer long underground tunnel and other conduits consisting of a pressure shaft, penstocks and surge shaft, all to be located underground, will convey stored water from the upper reservoir to the lower reservoir. Power will be generated by 3 x 167MW Francis pump-turbine units. The proposed project is located in the Province of Rizal, hosted by the City of Antipolo and the municipalities of San Mateo and Rodriquez, specifically the barangays of Calawis, Pintong Bukawe and San Rafael, respectively. Specific sitios include Sitio Anipa and Sito Casili, which are home to Dumagats. Thus, a Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) process is being undertaken by NCIP RegIV-A. No households are expected to be inundated but a Social Development Program and an IP Development Program framework have been developed to address impacts on private property. EIA Process Documentation EIA Team The environmental impact assessment was conducted by a team of specialists and consultants who have acknowledged expertise in their respective fields, working in close coordination with the OVPI.
