No minimum G.P.A. is required Courses offered in even years (2008-2009) for enrolment in any of the French programs. Enrolment is done through A – FRE 322H1 (18th Century); B – FRE 326H1 (20th Century); College Registrars or through the Student Web Service (ROSI). Students C – FRE 332H1 (Francophonie); D – FRE 319H1 (Renaissance) must familiarize themselves with the requirements of their intended program, as set out below. They should consult an Academic Counsellor Courses offered in odd years: (2009-2010) (see page 2) prior to enrolment whenever clarifications are needed. Students must fulfill the requirements for the Major in French Language 2. One 300-level FSL course and Literature. 3. One 400-level FSL course Second Language Learning 4. One other FSL course or FRE 375Y1 or any 200+-level FRE course, except FRE 480Y1. (FSL 121Y1 may be included if taken before FSL Students may fulfill the requirements for the Major in Second Language 221Y1). Learning in combination with a similar Major in Italian. FRENCH TRANSLATION (AS MIN 0585) DOUBLE-COUNTING COURSES IN PROGRAMS Minor Program (4 full courses or their equivalent) Students enrolled in two or more French programs are allowed to double- 1. FRE 375Y1 count only 1.0 course towards their French programs. 2. FRE 480Y1, 481Y1 LANGUAGE CITATION 3. One additional FRE course at the 200+ level Students must complete two courses at the following levels – FSL 300+ FRENCH STUDIES (AS MIN 1135) or FRE 200+ – with a minimum grade of B- in each to earn the University of Toronto Language citation. Minor Program (4 full courses or their equivalent) 1. FSL 221Y1 FRENCH COURSES AS ELECTIVES 2. Three FRE courses at the 200+ level including one at the 300/400- level (FSL 121Y1 may be included if taken before FSL 221Y1). Students who are not enrolled in a program in French may be admitted into FRE courses of their choice with permission from the Department, if FRENCH CULTURAL STUDIES (AS MIN 1475) they can demonstrate an adequate competence in French. These students may submit their written assignments in English (see page 62 for specific Minor Program (4 full courses or their equivalent) conditions). Any four FCS courses, including at least one at the 300/400-level. 5 6 Programs and Enrolment Programs and enrolment ENROLMENT GUIDELINES Native or fluent speakers of French are excluded from all FSL courses. However, they may request permission to enrol in a FSL course in order to improve their written or oral skills. Such students ENROLMENT IN FRENCH COURSES will be asked to complete the placement test.
