Common Blue Violets: • The leaves are stitched using Gloriana 096 (4 ply) using basketweave or tent stitch. • The petals are stitched using River Silks 4mm 23/25 using a Chenille Needle. Bring the ribbon up at center going to the outer edge of petal and then pierce the ribbon and pull gently leaving a small curl at the edge of the petal. • Overlap each petal slightly. • Center of flower is stitched using Vineyard Silk C-164 in French knots clustered to fill center. Crown and Roses (Atlantic City/Miss America): • Note: Do not stitch the three round circles. • The crown is stitched using Kreinik 101 #12 using basketweave or tent stitch. The three circles are covered by Sundance Beads-Rhinestones (Scarlet) using beading thread. • The leaves of the roses are stitched using Gloriana 096 (4 ply) using Slanted Gobelin. • The roses are stitched using River Silks 236/157 using the twisted ribbon technique. Cluster the roses together. o This stitch is done by bringing the ribbon to the front and then twisting the ribbon from needle to canvas making a loose coil. Go back into the same hole pulling ribbon gently and guiding ribbon with your free hand. The ribbon pulls into itself forming a ribbon rose, stop before you pull your rose back through the canvas. Use your beading thread to tack the ribbon down and securing it. ▪ This is a hard stitch to explain, I would recommend that you visit You Tube and look at Needlepoint Ribbon Roses. There are some very good videos of this technique. Happy Stitching! Copyright 2019. All rights reserved.
