Junior Major and Chromatic Scales All scales are to be played as designated. Do not exceed the range or tempo specified. All scales are to be memorized. Diatonic Scales: 1. All major scales are to be played in this pattern. (MM quarter note = 96) (Feb 2002) 2. Scales will be called for by pitch name, not concert pitch. Chromatic Scale: 1. Chromatic scale should be played in sixteenth notes (minimum MM quarter note = 72) 2. Chromatic scale should be slurred ascending, repeating the top note, and staccato descending.
