Strategically located on the east coast of Central Florida, the port offers cruise lines, cargo lines, shippers, businesses and vacationers the capabilities of a first-class deepwater port with the benefits of an uncongested and relaxed setting. The Albany Port District Commission (APDC) strives to responsibly and effectively manage the publicly owned maritime Port of Albany-Rensselaer, which contributes to the economy of the Capital Region of New York State while exercising stellar pu- blic stewardship in a transparent manner. The Port of Albany is a year-round, 24-hour operation encompassing almost 300 acres (100 hectares) within two municipalities. It directly and indirectly employs hundreds of people and generates hundreds of millions of dollars in regional and state-wide economic output. TWO NEW SUPPORTERS FOR GREEN MARINE The Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) of the Organization of American States (OAS) brings together the National Port Authorities of all 35 sovereign nations of the Americas. It promotes the development of competitive, sustainable and secure ports in the Western Hemisphere by actively facilitating cooperation between the highest governmental levels and the private sector. To date, CIP has more than 40 private sector firms and institutions as associate members. Its mission to promote sustainable port management practices, competitiveness and logistics maintains the protection of the marine environment as an important priority. CIP also deals with le- gislative and regulatory changes, corporate social responsibilities, security concerns, onshore tourism and passenger-related services, as well as gender equality matters. TWO NEW SUPPORTERS (CONTINUED) A leading American non-profit organization, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) integrates science, economics and law within innovative partnerships to create trans- formational solutions to the most serious environmental problems. Its mission is to preserve the natural systems on which all life depends. EDF helps port and shipping operators to replace old inefficient equipment with zero- and low-emission technolo- gy by driving public and private funds to port areas that need transitional assistance the most.
