December 4, 2016 Second Sunday of Advent MENSAJE DEL PASTOR Page 2 Más grande que cualquier cosa en la vida y más grande de lo que nadie había imaginado es el Mesías predicho por el Profeta Isaías para hacer apariciones entre los seres humanos por lo que debemos entender en términos de fe, gracia y el estudio de Dios cuando estudiamos teología y reflexionamos sobre el gran misterio de Dios. Primero debemos comenzar con nuestra existencia y nuestra condición humana en cuerpo y espíritu. Luego al abrir nuestra mente y ver con nuestros ojos la verdad que está puesta delante de nosotros, aceptamos la revelación completa de la presencia de Dios entre nosotros a través de una fe auténtica. Es esa misma fe que nos levanta de las miserias y nos eleva a un sentido más profundo del ser. Todo esto puede sonar "excitante" (filosofar con uno mismo en nuestra mente), pero cuando realmente vemos la historia de nuestra fe y la creencia de la base de nuestras acciones en vivo como han dado cuenta, como seres humanos dependemos completamente de Dios y nada más. A través de nuestro propio esfuerzo podemos también darle crédito a Dios, puesto que todo lo que somos, todo lo bueno que tenemos, sentimos y pensamos, es debido a Dios y su gracia salvadora. El profeta Isaías nos habla de un gran líder en el futuro después de él que viene a enseñar a los humanos a Dios, no en argumentos o "palabrería", pero a través de acciones del corazón humano que reflejan la sabiduría en alto y la orientación que demuestra por buenas acciones humanas, los efectos reales del Espíritu Santo. Que intensa y maravillosa es esta primera lectura del segundo domingo de Adviento, porque una vez por todas, Dios trata de cumplir la promesa de caminarán sobre la tierra personalmente en la experiencia de su Hijo para mostrarnos el camino y hacer discípulos de nosotros hasta el final de la historia humana. Pero este mundo en que vivimos es a menudo tan perturbado por la violencia e insurrecciones de todo tipo en todo el mundo. Al volver a vivir ese momento de espera de nuestro Salvador y Señor, sentimos esa misma esperanza y euforia Santa que vivió el Profeta. Para nosotros está bien sentirse nostálgico durante esta temporada, no tanto que nos sentimos deprimidos, pero para apreciar que los sentimientos son parte de nuestra dimensión humana que nos mueven en el camino correcto a Dios cuando son auténticos, sinceros y honestamente dirigidos a Dios con un deseo de pureza y reverencia y un sentido de lo sagrado. Todo esto va mano a mano mientras continuamos hacia el espíritu de la Navidad en tres semanas. Estamos iluminando la segunda vela de la corona de Adviento como un recordatorio de nuestro viaje al prepararnos para recibir a Jesús entre nosotros. Como he mencionado en los dos últimos domingos, debemos entender nuestra propia catolicidad y basarnos en fe mientras esperamos para participar en nuestro trabajo pastoral con otras parroquias hermanas de nuestra agrupación. La iniciativa, Renovar Mi Iglesia que nuestro Cardenal Blaise Cupich ha implementado a lo largo de la Arquidiócesis realmente nos ayudará a reconocer el símbolo viviente de la fe que tenemos como católicos. Nos ayudará a darnos cuenta de lo que es la mayor misión de nuestra iglesia e inspirarnos a nosotros mismos a trabajar diligentemente para la visión y misión de la iglesia. Sabemos que la palabra "Renovar", no significa en términos sencillos "volver a comenzar del principio", pero señala la necesidad de comprometer la fe que tenemos y ponerla a trabajar para la gloria de Dios. Evaluamos nuestra fe, y sabemos con certeza que estamos siendo guiados por una verdadera inspiración a través de la gracia de Dios para aceptar la gran realidad de nuestra fe y ver lo que realmente significa ser católico. Porque como ya he mencionado, una vez más, que donde quiera que vamos por el mundo, sabemos quiénes somos y que somos capaces de practicar la misma fe que hemos transmitidos a través de la historia. Sabemos que pertenecemos a la iglesia mayor, más allá de los límites de nuestra parroquia y nos sentimos bienvenidos en los pasillos de una gran comunidad de fe. Aunque el mensaje del Evangelio puede resonar en nuestros oídos como con un tono negativo, este gran mensaje nos ayuda a descubrir, una vez más quiénes somos. Somos llamados al arrepentimiento de nuestras propias carencias y limitaciones que nos impiden seguir adelante con nuestra fe, y tal puede ser el caso de no hacer nada al respecto cuando fe exige ser compartida con otros, creyentes y no creyentes. Si pensamos que no somos los fariseos y saduceos, a quienes regaña el Bautista, podríamos estar equivocados, porque posiblemente tenemos un quebrantamiento espiritual que necesita ser reparado por un acto de contrición íntimo e intenso con Dios. Este es el momento de prepararnos para recibir a Jesús en nuestros corazones y nuestras almas. Por lo tanto, abramos los ojos y comprometamos nuestra fe más profundamente con otras personas para que con un corazón humilde podamos alcanzar las gracias que Cristo nos ofrece para la salvación. De esta manera, reconocemos el poder redentor de Cristo. También reconocemos que nuestra oración puede reflejar la de San Pablo a los PASTOR’S NOTES Page 3 Bigger than anything in life and greater than anyone had ever imagined is the Messiah, foretold by the prophet Isiah to make an appearance among human beings so that we must understand in terms of faith, grace, and the study of God. When we study theology and ponder on the great mystery of God, we must first begin from our human existence and our human condition in body and spirit. Then as we open our mind and see with our eyes the truth that is set before us, we accept the full revelation of God’s presence among us through an authentic faith. It is that same faith that continues to lift us up from our miseries elevating us to a deeper sense of being. This all might sound “heady” (philosophizing as a self-dialogue in our heads), but when we truly see the history of our faith and live the core belief of our actions as we come to realize that we, as humans depend completely on God and nothing else. Through our own efforts we may also give credit to God, since everything that we are, everything good that we do, feel and think, is because of God and His saving grace. Prophet Isaiah tells of a great leader in the future ahead of him who is to come and teach the human way back to God, not in politically correctness or “wordy” arguments, but through actions of the human heart that reflect the wisdom from on high and guidance that demonstrated by good human actions, the real effects of the Holy Spirit. How intense and Beautiful filled with wonder is this First Reading of the Second Sunday of Advent, because once and for all, God is about to fulfill the promise and will walk on earth personally in the experience of His Only Son, to show us the way and make disciples of us till the end of human history. But this world we live in is oftentimes so disturbed by violence and insurrections of all kinds throughout the world. As we re-live that moment of expectation of our Savior and Lord, we are to hold on to that same hope and holy euphoria that the prophet experienced. For us it is okay to get nostalgic during this season, not so much that we get depressed or be so much affected by the SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), but to appreciate that feelings are part of our human dimension that will continue to move us in the right path to God when they are authentic, sincere, and honestly directed to God with a desire of purity and reverence and a sense of sacredness. All this goes together hand in hand as we continue to move full swing into the spirit of Christmas in three weeks. We are lighting the second candle on the Advent Wreath as a reminder of our journey to prepare to receive Jesus in our midst. As I have mentioned these past two Sundays, we are to understand our own catholicity and become grounded in faith as we look forward to engage in our pastoral work with other sister parishes in our grouping. The Renew My Church initiative that our Cardinal Blaise Cupich has implemented throughout the Archdiocese will truly help us recognize the living sign of faith that we are as Catholics. It will help us realize what is the greater mission of our Church and will inspire us to challenge ourselves to work diligently for the greater vision and mission of the Church. We know that the word “Renew,” does not mean in simple terms “to re- invent the wheel” in this case, but it points out the need to engage the faith we have and put it to work for the greater glory of God.
