[email protected] A Note from your Editor URGENT ! Distributors still required for Hello! Burton Village—Please contact the Editor!!! And welcome to a New Year and a New Decade! With a new year we also have a number of new advertisers too. On you will find . Go to page for especially to everyone who has just moved into our Villages, don’t forget . My thanks to Walter Robinson for the stunning cover photo he took in Scampton while taking Bomber for a walk one evening. We have have had some particularly wet weather so far this winter, but just occasion- ally, we have also experienced some memorable sunrises and sunsets too. The Venture relies heavily on volunteers and I am profoundly grateful for the way each month they sort and distribute your magazine. Without them this magazine would certainly not exist. Is there anyone out there with a new year’s resolution to get fit? Well how about spending just a couple of hours 10 times a year to distribute your magazine. Its certainly going to be cheaper than a new membership at the Gym. As usual, I have had the rewarding and challenging job of editing your magazine this month, seeing more new advertisers buying space as well as making sure there is space for all your regular village news and events. Could I please ask all village and event contributors to make certain they adjust their page size to A5 before they start to compile their news and please aim to be as concise as you can. Then there will be space for everyone! Bill Shaw You can also find a copy of the magazine every month at the Brattleby website. [email protected] Hello, I’m Tina and I live at Walnut House in Ingham with Rob and our 9 year old dog. For decades I’ve worked with vulnerable age groups including teenagers in a residential re- habilitation centre for substance misuse. I look upon music as a time to reflect both good times and sad. These are eight of my favourite tracks: Stone Roses – Fools Gold Love this song by this northern band from Manchester with its funky attitude and the use of the Wah-Wah pedal. The lyrics are almost whispered, such a good song. Depeche Mode – Personal Jesus - Formed in the mid 1980’s they created an alternative synth pop sound. The drum beat is stomping. Johnny Cash covered this track in a gospel style which still works well.‘ Someone to hear your prayers, someone who cares…’ Kraftwerk– Computer Love - Released in 1981 by this German Electronic band and went to No1 in the UK chart. This song is about the rise of computers in our society, it’s almost hypnotic. Radiohead – Creep - Thom Yorke the singer wrote this while at Exeter University about a girl he liked at the time. The song is quite mournful but I guess it’s about recognising who you are and not fitting into a box The Smiths – There is a light that never goes out - Released in 1992 this was the Smiths’ comeback record, inspired by James Dean’s character in ‘Rebel without a Cause’. A per- fect balance between Johnny Marr’s musical skills and Morissey’s lyrics and voice New Order – Blue Monday - The longest song I’ve ever heard but the drum machine and synthesiser make this an incredible track. Released three years after the death of Joy Division’s singer, Ian Curtis, it was influenced by new music tech electronica The Cure – A Forest - I don’t always listen to The Cure but when I play this it’s played again and again. Just love it Fleetwood Mac – The Chain - To me this song is about resilience. The whole band had an input into this song and I enjoy its melody. Sometimes in life you can be in the middle of nowhere and this is when you find your own resilience I’d have to take 2 books away with me: Terrifying Tales by Edgar Allan Poe. He had a knack of getting into your head and tapping into your fear. Spine tingling. The Shining by Stephen King which is also one of my favourite films by Stanley Kubrick. My luxury item has to be a king size bed complete with duvet and soft pillows. ’I ll be hungry and bored on the island but I’ll have a great night’s sleep.
