The First Definitive Study of Enochian Chess Enochian chess' fascinating history begins in the late 1800s, when occultists Wynn Westcott and MacGregor Mathers updat- ed the Enochian system of magic for the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and incorporated a four-handed chess game orig- inally dubbed Rosicrucian chess-later dubbed Enochian chess, due to its derivation from the Enochian Tablets of Dr. John Dee. Since the publication of the secret rituals of the Golden Dawn in the 1930s by the late Israel Regardie, there has been much speculation about Enochian chess' system of play, since the pub- lished manuscripts lacked the information necessary to actual- ly play the game. But now, Chris Zalewski has made Enochian chess accessible as a "working game,," with all the examples, rules and directions you will need to enjoy playing it. Whether you want to explore Enochian chess as a divinatory tool rich with magical associations and kabbalistic analogies or are just intrigued by a four-handed variant of a "normal" chess game, you will find this book thorough, to-the-point and the most complete and authoritative text on the subject ever published. About the Author Chris Zalewski was born in 1956 in Hastings, New Zealand. She is a keen amateur artist and bodybuilder, has a diploma in herbal medi- cine, runs an herbal clinic and is president of the Wellington Astro- logical Society. In early 1980, she was initiated into the Golden Dawn, with her husband Pat, by ex-members of the New Zealand temple, Whare Ra. Her study of the Enochian chess game for the last 14 years was acknowledged by the late Israel Regardie as taking the game to an area that was quite beyond him. Her other interests include alche- my and other forms of esoteric healing. She resides with her husband in Wellington, where she has a long-standing tradition with the Gold- en Dawn through their Thoth-Hermes Temple. Box 64383, St. Paul, MN 55164-0383 About Llewellyn's Golden Dawn Series Just as, 100 years ago, the original Order of the Golden Dawn initiat- ed a powerful rebirth of interest in the Western Esoteric Tradition that has lasted through this day, so do we expect this series of books to add new impetus to the Great Work itself among an ever broaden- ing base of sincere students. I further promise and swear that with the Divine Permission, I will from this day forward, apply myself to the Great Work- which is: to purify and exalt my Spiritual Nature so that with the Divine Aid I may at length attain to be more than human, and thus gradually raise and unite myself to my Higher and Divine Genius, and that in this event I will not abuse the great power entrusted to me. With this oath, the Adeptus Minor of the Inner Order committed hid herself to undertake, consciously and deliberately, that which was ordained as the birthright of all Humanity: TO BECOME MORE THAN HUMAN! It is this that is the ultimate message of Esotericism: that evolution continues, and that the purpose of each life is to grow into the Image set for us by our Creator, to attain and reveal our own Divinity. These books will themselves make more easily accessible the Spiritu- al Technology that is inherent in the Golden Dawn System. It is a sys- tem that allows for individual as well as group endeavor; a system that works within or without an organized lodge; a system that is based on universal principles that will be shown to be global in their impact today. And it is practical. The works in this series will be practical in their application. You need neither travel to the mountaintop nor obtain any tool other than your own consciousness. No garment need you other than that of your own imagination. No authority need you other than that of your own True Will. Set forth then into the New Dawn-a New Start on the greatest adventure there is: to become One with the Divine Genius.
