During the first and only previous playoff meeting between the two clubs, Oklahoma City defeated Memphis (4-3) in the 2011 Western Conference Semifinals. The seven game series between the Thunder and Grizzlies represents the only seven game postseason series for the Thunder during the Oklahoma City era. During the Thunder’s Game 7 victory in Oklahoma City two years ago, Russell Westbrook became the fifth player in NBA history to record a triple-double in a Game 7, joining Scottie Pippen (1992), James Worthy (1988), Larry Bird (1984) and Jerry West (1969) as the only players to accomplish such a feat. The Thunder will head to Memphis for Game 3 at the FedEx Forum on Saturday afternoon. During the Thunder’s opening round series versus Houston, Oklahoma City went 2-1 away from Chesapeake Energy Arena. Oklahoma City entered the 2013 postseason having wrapped-up the best record in the Western Conference (60-22) and the highest year-end winning percentage for the franchise since the 1997-98 season (.744). Oklahoma City has advanced past the first round in each of the last three seasons after defeating the Houston Rockets (4-2), Dallas Mavericks (4-0) and the Denver Nuggets (4-1) in each of the last three years. The Thunder is the ONLY Western Conference team to advance past the first round in each of the last three seasons (Miami also accomplished the feat in the Eastern Conference). In each of the last two seasons, the Thunder advanced to the Western Conference Finals after defeating the Memphis Grizzlies (4-3) and the Los Angeles Lakers (4-1) in the 2011 and 2012 Conference Semifinals, respectively.
