Cool Planet Spotlight Staff Spotlight Upcoming TCR Trainings Upcoming Events with Registry Partners Congratulations, Climate Registered Members! Become a Member of The Climate Registry Letter from the Executive Director Dear TCR members and supporters, In his most recent State of the Union address, President Obama declared that climate change is something we will have to account for to "our children's children." While the President is taking important action on the greenhouse gases (GHGs) associated with major sources like power plants, we know it's also going to take leadership from business and others to address one of the biggest challenges of our time. Some of these leaders are recognized in this Newsletter, and many more will be celebrated at the third annual Climate Leadership conference and awards, which take place 24-26 February in San Diego, California. US EPA, The Climate Registry (TCR), the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions and the Association of Climate Change Officers will welcome and recognize some of our finest leaders in climate action, many of whom come from our very own TCR community. We hope you will join us at the event, which is an opportunity to share, collaborate, and network with fellow forward-thinking leaders from business, government, academia, and the non-profit community. https://ui.constantcontact.com/visualeditor/visual_editor_preview.jsp?agent.uid=1116381051875&format=html&print=true 1/8 2/19/2014 January/February News from The Climate Registry This year's roster of speakers features luminaries from the public and private sectors, including many TCR members and Board directors: Janet McCabe -- Acting Assistant Administrator, Office of Air and Radiation, U.S. EPA Mary Nichols -- Chair, California Air Resources Board Doug Scott -- Chairman, Illinois Commerce Commission David Littell -- Commissioner, Main Public Utilities Commission Mark Snell -- President, Sempra Energy Chris Benjamin -- Senior Manager, Corporate Sustainability, Pacific Gas & Electric Wendell Brase -- Vice Chancellor, Administrative & Business Services, UC Irvine Preston Chiaro -- Group Executive, Technology & Innovation, Rio Tinto Brian D'Agostino -- Senior Meteorologist, San Diego Gas & Electric Thomas Day -- Chief Sustainability Officer, U.S. Postal Service Rame Hemstreet -- Vice President Operations & Chief Energy Officer, Kaiser Permanente Helen Howes -- Managing Director, Safety, Health, Environment, Delta Airlines John Martin -- Director of Construction, Qualcomm Lisa McNeilly -- Director of Sustainability, University of California, Berkeley Paul Polizzotto -- President, CBS Ecomedia Kathleen Ave -- Project Manage r, Energy Research & Development, Sacramento Municipal Utility District We look forward to seeing you in San Diego, and to continuing to define climate leadership in 2014 and beyond. General Verification Protocol v. 2.1 Public Comment Period There's just over a week left in the public comment period for The Climate Registry's draft General Verification Protocol (GVP) v. 2.1. We'll be accepting comments and critiques through Friday, February 21st . We'd love to hear from you, so please get your feedback in soon! The proposed updates to the GVP include a new option for verification to be conducted to a limited level of assurance (The Registry's existing policy requires a reasonable level of assurance). These proposed updates provide Members with the flexibility to choose the level of assurance that best meets their needs and objectives. We welcome all Members and supporters to provide feedback, which we will then work to incorporate when finalizing the document in the coming months. Stay tuned for GVP 2.1's official release. 2014 Policy Updates for The Registry's Reporting Members The Registry updated its policy in two significant aspects this January: more reporting options and less paperwork. In keeping with international GHG accounting standards, Members now have the option to report emissions using their preferred set of Global Warming Potentials (GWPs) from the IPCC Second Assessment Report (SAR), Third Assessment Report (TAR) or Fourth Assessment Report https://ui.constantcontact.com/visualeditor/visual_editor_preview.jsp?agent.uid=1116381051875&format=html&print=true 2/8 2/19/2014 January/February News from The Climate Registry (AR4).
