The driest whites can be found on the outskirts of the region; Muscadet to the far west, home to the slightly salty but very dry wine made from Melon de Bourgogne, and Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé to the far east, where you’ll find flinty smoky styles of Sauvignon Blanc. French White Wines Alsace French wine and food that has been heavily influenced from a history of boarder wars with its neighbor to the east. French White Wines Burgundy With an intricate system of land ownership and diverse terroir, Burgundy is home to two of the world’s most popular grapes; Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. In Chablis, you’ll find mineral and acid driven Chardonnay. The palate is balanced with a very fine touch of acidity, and hints of clementine and dried apricot. 61 Domaine des Hâtes 2016 100 Chardonnay, Fourchaume, Chablis 1er Cru -Round, ripe, and dry but not fruity. Notes of lemon and white flowers with a steely, flinty minerality. 62 François Martenot, ‘Les Marouettes’ 2015 60 Chardonnay, Chablis -Spicy aromas, citrus fruits notes, and full bodied. 63 Domaine Séguinot-Bordet, 2017 65 ‘Vieilles Vignes’ Chardonnay, Chablis 64 Domaine Bachelet Monnot 2016 110 Chardonnay, Puligny-Montrachet -Great balance of acid, creaminess, and chalky minerality. 65 Marie-Pierre Manciat ‘Les Morizottes’ 2016 51 Chardonnay, Mâcon -Rich and slightly honeyed bouquet.
