The majority of this content is contained on video tape, but many AHC collections also contain motion picture film and born digital content. Some collections have been partially or completely digitized, but the vast majority of AV materials in AHC’s collections have no digital surrogate. In these cases, arrangements must be made in advance for access to these materials. To the extent possible, access copy availability has been noted below. A detailed list of digitized items can be found in the Digitized Video database, the Oral History and Audio Recordings database, a collection’s finding aid and A/V inventory spreadsheet. ARCHIVES AND MANUSCRIPTS COLLECTION Audiovisual materials abound in AHC Archives and Manuscripts collections. While only a few of these collections are comprised exclusively of AV, there are many collections with AV materials in them. Digitization of AV items in Archives and Manuscripts collections is an ongoing process. The Archives and Manuscripts Collection contains primary research materials about people, organizations, governments, and businesses in Austin and Travis County. The pre- and post-site section materials in the collection document the Texas Governor's Office recruitment efforts to bring MCC to Austin, Texas. The collection documents the activities of the corporation from 1983-1991. City Council. Smoot Carl-Mitchell Records Smoot Carl-Mitchell served as a Place 2 Austin Council member for two terms from 1985 to 1991. Issues central to his tenure included environmental protection, zoning reform, economic development, and neighborhood preservation. He devoted much attention to the Comprehensive Watershed Ordinance, the Social Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC), and the Hill Country Roadway Ordinance. Sister and Friendship Cities Program Records The Austin Sister Cities Program fosters friendly relations and understanding between the citizens of Austin and its sister cities around the world. The collection, dating from 1963 to 2004, documents the activities of the Austin Sister Cities Executive Committee and the individual committees of each sister city. Bruce Todd Records Bruce Todd served as Mayor of the City of Austin from 1991-1996. This collection documents his responsibilities as mayor and various projects and issues of importance in Austin during his two terms. Treaty Oak Collection Treaty Oak is a live oak located in a small city park on Baylor Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets in Austin, Texas. The tree was poisoned in 1989 and the effort to save the tree became a national news story. The collection documents the significant amount of attention given to the tree by children and adults, both locally and nationally. The Center was affiliated with The Himalayan International Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy. Austin Tomorrow Ongoing Committee Records AV items in this collection: Audio recordings of meetings (audiocassettes) AR.1994.092 Lucille Carroll Austin Papers Lucille Carroll Austin was an enterprising young woman whose professional ambitions led her to great success in the advertising and real estate businesses. Her development and participation in her own and others' business ventures occasioned her to collect documents that relate facets of the business community and economy in Austin, Texas, from 1972 to 1987. AV items in this collection include: Videocassettes A guide to the collection is available on Texas Archival Resources Online AR.1994.094 Faces of Austin Video Collection This collection contains raw footage of oral history interviews conducted with six well known public figures who resided in Austin, Texas. Edited versions of the interviews were used to compile the short oral history documentary “Faces of Austin” in the early 1980s. The collection contains 24 video recordings (U-matic 3/4 inch) of interviews with Ada DeBlanc Simond, C. B. Smith, Emma Long, Jose Uriegas, Eddie Wilson and Gordon Fowler conducted in the mid-1980s. In addition there are tape logs and handwritten transcripts of the interviews. The edited version of the video recording (both VHS and DVD) is cataloged as A 976.431 FA.
