Mel Pearson returned to Ann Arbor, becoming the ninth head coach Rk Team Points Record in program history. He led the Wolverines to the NCAA Tournament in his first year behind 1 St. Cloud State 59 25-8-6 the bench, becoming the only coach in program history to accomplish that feat. The Maize 2t Notre Dame 57 25-9-2 and Blue won 20 games in Pearson’s first season, the 40th time the Wolverines have reached 2t Cornell 57 25-5-2 the 20-win mark. U-M finished third in Big Ten, and won its first round matchup against 4t Ohio State 56 24-9-5 Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament. The hopes of a second Big Ten championship were 4t Denver 56 22-9-8 dashed in the semifinals when Michigan was defeated by Ohio State in overtime. Marody was also named to the All-Big Ten First Team. Tony Calderone and 12t Minnesota Duluth 47 21-16-3 Quinn Hughes were named All-Big Ten Second Team, with Hughes also being named to the 12t Minnesota 47 19-17-2 Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Hayden Lavigne was named a Big Ten Honorable Mention. Sam 14 North Dakota 46 17-13-10 Piazza was also recognized, winning his second-straight Sportsmanship Award. 15 Boston University 45 21-13-4 16t Boston College 42 20-14-3 How Sweep it is 16t Bowling Green 42 23-12-6 The Wolverines have had six weekend sweeps in a season since the 2011-12 campaign. The 16t Princeton 42 19-12-4 sweep over the top-ranked Fighting Irish (Feb. 16, 18) was also the first time in program his- 19 Omaha 41 17-17-2 tory U-M has swept the No. 1-ranked team in the polls. Previously, the highest ranked team 19 Northern Michigan 41 25-15-3 Michigan swept was the No. 2-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, during the 2011-12 season. 21 Michigan Tech 39 22-16-5 22t Union 38 21-15-2 Leaders and Best 22t Mercyhurst 38 21-12-4 Marody’s 46 points and 32 assists lead all players in the Big Ten conference. Joining him atop the standings is Calderone, as his 23 goals are four better than second best in the Big Ten. 24 Colorado College 36 15-17-5 25t Western Michigan 35 15-19-2 Finishing Strong 25t Wisconsin 35 14-19-4 The Maize and Blue ended their regular season on a five game winning streak, and a six 27 Air Force 33 22-14-5 game unbeaten streak. Since being swept by Notre Dame in early January, the Wolverines 28 Harvard 32 15-14-4 went 12-4-1, tied for the fourth-most wins in college hockey since Jan. 8. 29t Maine 31 18-16-4 29t Miami 31 12-20-5 Nifty Nine 31 Bemidji State 29 16-14-8 Nine Wolverines have set career highs for points this year. In addition, sophomore defensemen Luke Martin and Griffin Luce have 35t Michigan State 25 12/22-2 tied their point totals from their freshmen campaigns. 35t Massachusetts 25 17-20-2 37 Canisius 22 19-17-2 Tony Lights the Lamp 38t Dartmouth 21 16-17-2 Calderone’s 23 goals are the most by a U-M player in the first 37 games of a season since 38t Yale 21 15-15-1 Kyle Connor’s 35 goals in 37 games during the 2015-16 campaign. Calderone’s four goals on 40 UMass Lowell 19 17-19-0 March 2 are also the most since Connor scored four on March 18, 2016 against Penn State. 41t Army 18 15-15-6 41t Merrimack 18 12-21-4 Marody in Good Company 43 Robert Morris 17 18-20-3 Marody’s 46 points are the most by a Wolverine through 37 games since Kyle Connor had 44t American International 16 15-20-4 69 in 2015-2016. 44t Bentley 16 13-18-6 46t RIT 15 15-20-2 Quinntessential Blue liner 46t Holy Cross 15 13-16-7 Hughes’ 28 points (4g, 24a) are the most by a U-M freshman blue liner through 37 games since Jacob Trouba had 29 points in a 37 game season in 2012-13. His 24 assists are the 48 Vermont 12 10-20-7 most by a freshman defenseman in team history, while his 28 points places him fourth in 49 Sacred Heart 11 13-22-4 Michigan freshman defenseman history. 50 Ferris State 10 14-23-1 51 Alabama Huntsville 9 12-23-2 Climbin’ the Ranks 52 New Hampshire 8 10-20-6 Marody ranks tied for ninth nationally with 46 points on the season and tied for third with 53 Arizona State 7 8-21-5 32 assists.
