St Paul's McKinnon JFC Newsletter From the President June 16 2013 Here’s what I’ve learnt over the last few weeks: • We have some amazing, hard-working families at our club • There is no casual comment when it comes to “diversity” • Some of our coaches are truly mad Let me expand … On Sunday June 9th, yep that’s the Queen’s Birthday Sunday that most sensible people enjoyed either away with a camp fire, or as time with their family on a beautiful winter’s day – we were privileged and proud to host the U13 Interleague Carnival at McKinnon Reserve. What a fantastic day – the club spirit was evidenced from 7.30am through to 4.00pm when the matches had finished and we closed up the club after a very rewarding day. Rewarding financially – certainly – we kicked butt with the sausages, drinks, lollies, egg / bacon roll sales; rewarding football wise –with both SMJFL rep teams being victors on the day and our own Tom Fogarty starring in the Division 1 team; but most rewarding was the volunteerism and tireless efforts of many families who helped support the day set- ting up, behind the canteen, on the BBQ, making numerous trips to the supermarket, keeping the amenities well serviced, or packing up. When I say families, I mean families with children supporting their hard-working parents. Thank you to the Andersons, Behnks, Bradys, Byrnes, Campbells, D’Amicos, Dunlops, Eckersalls, Fogartys, Forers, Hartneys, Hughes, Jacksons, Kennedys, Kielys, L’huilliers, Lloyds, Rocket and …. (I sincerely hope I have captured eve- ryone involved) Our role and efforts were acknowledged publicly by Tim Marshall, the SMJFL Div 1 coach, at an after-game social event, who signalled out the St. Paul’s McKinnon footy club for the wonderful day. He spoke about how smoothly the day ran in terms of organisation, the facilities and the catering. He talked about how he arrived at the ground early (or so he thought), only to find a swarm of St. Paul’s McKinnon people already in full swing. He said it was very impressive. A very proud day for our club! The second thing I’ve learnt follows on from the McGuire gaff – and whilst I am not about to “pot” Eddie as he is such a public figure and target for his mistakes, what resonated with me is that when it comes to race, religion, colour, or any form of “difference” there is no such thing as a casual comment. The League, off the back of the very high profile incidences of that week, sent a reminder to all clubs about the league policies and by-laws in place in our competition – we have included them in this version of the newsletter for you to review, and indeed our club will be undertaking some short educational sessions using League provided resources with some of our older age teams this season, and continue these sessions next year as well as per the League’s commitment outlined in this policy. Finally, a comment on some of our “mad” coaches. Over and above the usual madness they exhibit, what were they thinking training last Wednesday night?! Whilst we wrapped up the team photographs in the social rooms, some teams were out there in sub-arctic conditions – training the house-down. I did notice that some of the ‘older’ coaches were wise enough to send their kids home … LLoydy and JP? Enjoy this weekend’s round of matches as we start to move into the back end of the season. Keep enjoying your footy and have fun! Go Demons Chris ATTENTION ALL PARENTS Thefts from motor cars and club change rooms have been reported to police in your club’s area over recent weeks. Police would like to request your assistance by asking you to make sure that all valuables are removed from your vehicles and all doors locked prior to leaving the vehicle at all times on game days. Many of these offences are being committed by persons who are simply trying the door handles of all vehicles and stealing whatever they find inside. In the vast majority of cases if the vehicle is locked the offenders are moving on to the next vehicle. Items including computer laptops, sunglasses, loose change, mobile telephones and anything which another person might find to be of any value, be that minor or expensive, have all been targeted in recent times. PLEASE HELP US TO HELP YOU Remove all valuables, lock your car and don’t leave valuables in the clubrooms during games! Kind Regards Bill Karametos, Senior Community Development Officer MATCH RESULTS June 16 TEAM ‘KIAMA LANDSCAPES AND POOLS’ - U9’s COLTS St.Pauls McKinnon 4-5-29 lost to St Peters 10-7-67 Goal Kickers: David, Connor, Jake, Luke H Best Players: Lachie Teal, Jake Grima, Ron Golombick, David Valavi We were caught napping early doors and St. Peter’s raced away to a two goal lead after 3 minutes and things looked grim. The boys knuckled down, however, and stopped the flow with Ron, Luke L, Paul and Charlie Bell. The second quarter was a pretty even performance with a solid effort from Jake, Matt, Jesse and a snap from 30 metres by Connor which could be Goal of the Year! After half time, the game opened up and St. Peter’s got on top again, but we didn't give up. Aiden made the steal of the century, Jake played another great quarter and the Callum S and Callum H did a great job too.
