Robin Hahnel American Economist United States Prof. Robin Hahnel is currently Mark and Melody Teppola Presidential Distinguished Visiting Professor at Willamette University in Salem Oregon, Co-Director of Economics for Equity and the Environment (the e3 network), and Professor Emeritus at American University where he taught for over thirty years. He has also taught at the University of Maryland at College Park, Lewis and Clark College, Portland State University, Manchester University (England), Catholic University (Peru), and the University of Havana (Cuba.) He received his BA in economics from Harvard University (1968), and his PhD in economics from American University (1979). He has traveled extensively advising on economic matters all over the world. He is best known for his work on participatory economics with Z Magazine editor Michael Albert. Prof. Hahnel is a radical economist and political activist. His work in economic theory and analysis is informed by the work of Karl Marx, Keynes, Piero Sraffa, Michał Kalecki, and Joan Robinson, among others. He is author of Green Economics: Confronting the Ecological Crisis, Economic Justice and Democracy: From Competition to Cooperation, The ABCs of Political Economy: A Modern Approach, Income Distribution and Environmental Sustainability: A Sraffian Approach, and Radical Political Economy: Sraffa Versus Marx and co-author of Quiet Revolution in Welfare Economics and The Political Economy of Participatory Economics and Alternatives to Capitalism: Proposals for a Democratic Economy. He has been active in various campaigns and organizations working for peace, economic justice, and environmental sustainability for fifty years. Most recently he worked on the Portland Climate Action Plan 2015 for the city’s Department of Planning and Sustainability. .
