An individual could drive across the Erie Lowland Region in a few minutes. Pennsylvania’s capital is Harrisburg. The Allegheny Mountains lie along the eastern edge of the Allegheny Plateau. Piedmont means “foot of the mountain”. Harrisburg which is Pennsylvania’s capital was established in 1812. The Atlantic Coastal Plain is best described as most of the region is covered by Philadelphia and its suburbs. In 1829, mining companies began digging for coal in the Allegheny Plateau. Valleys border the mountain ranges in the Ridge and Valley Region. “Ridges that are separated by valleys” describes the South Mountain Region. Its level ground is the feature in the Erie Lowland which makes it a good area for building railroads and highways. The Erie Lowland major crop is grapes. A port is a harbor, or place where ships can load and unload cargo and be safe from storms. Gold is an example of a mineral. Deep mining is used by miners to get minerals underground.
