The course covers neonatal transitional physiology, physiologic cod closure, species-specific behavior at birth, the cocktail of hormones peaking and how all of this fits into the biological imperatives for both mother and baby at birth. Controversies and upcoming guideline changes in NRP will be discussed. Participants will need to purchase the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 4 th edition. We will cover how to do a “debrief and integration” when there has been a complication or an intervention at birth. Examples of “Rupture and Repair” will be given, a way out of the guilt that often accompanies this new awareness about babies being conscious. EFT: Emotional Freedom Technique Eileen Sullivan, CBE, MCHD, EFTEFT----ADVADV Participants will learn the theory behind EFT and how it works, as well as the "Basic Recipe" technique. Eileen will work with a volunteer or two on an issue of their choice, and everyone in the session will have the opportunity to experience EFT for themselves. Participants will also discuss some of the ways that EFT can benefit women and families in the childbearing year, as well as hard-working midwives and other birth professionals. Legislative Roundtable Lisa Clark, Ida Darragh, CPM, LM, & Chloe Raum Come join us for a legislative roundtable discussion. We'd like to hear from midwives and consumers in licensed states concerning regulation. How did you pass your bill? What continuing efforts are going on in your state? What wisdom do you have for states still in the process of drafting and lobbying? We'd also like to hear from those in states still lobbying for a bill. Birth Art: When a Picture is worth a Million Words Eileen Sullivan, CBE, MCHD, EFTEFT----ADVADV Discusses process art and how it can be used in preparation for birth, as well as ways to help ourselves and others process a difficult birth experience with art. Participants will have an opportunity to make a piece of birth art and to explore its meanings, as well as to learn the art of gentle exploration of birth art made by others. Help craft baby hats to benefit Safehouse, a domestic violence shelter in Birmingham. How to Become a CPM Ida Darragh, CPM, LM This workshop explains the various paths to certification as a CPM and how the requirements must be documented for NARM. This is a good workshop for both apprentices and preceptors so that those who are involved in training an apprentice can better understand the information that should be documented during the apprenticeship. He specializes in providing therapy for clients with a wide range of relationship and sexuality issues. Deren Bader, CPM, DrPH Deren has been attending home births since 1986. She currently lives and practices in Charlottesville, Virginia. She received her Doctor of Public Health degree in Maternal and Child Health in 2003. She currently serves on the Virginia Advisory Board on Midwifery, is Director of Research Education for MANA's Division of Research, and is the current Southeast Regional Representative for MANA. Anne Bailey Anne is mother, businesswoman, poet, storyteller and artist. Jana Borino, CPM Jana is a founding mother of the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery. She has dedicated her professional life to the advancement of midwifery in Florida and the nation. Jana has attended births as a midwife assistant since 1986 and has served on numerous boards and committees of national, state and local midwifery organizations. Her work continues to advance midwifery through her teaching, fundraising, grant writing and public speaking. Jana was very involved in legislative action during key political years that resulted in successful passage of Florida Statue 467, The Midwifery Practice Act.
