The Honors Middle Level State Honors Applications Due Project began in 1967 to provide musically talented high school youth the opportunity to rehearse and perform with Middle Level State Honors Auditions the nation’s finest conductors in a professional setting. In 1995, WSMA proudly sponsored the first-ever Middle Level Friday, April 7, 2006 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. State Honors Band. A WSMA Middle Level State Honors Choir was added in 1996, and in 1997, the WSMA Middle Dousman Kettle Moraine Level State Honors Orchestra made its debut performance. LaCrosse Logan Wausau Horace Mann Students in grades 6–8 who attend WSMA-member schools are eligible to audition for the WSMA Middle Level State Saturday, April 8, 2006 Honors Music Project. Auditions include an individual 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. performance and an Ensemble Class taught by the adjudica- tor. This year, more than 1300 students applied for the Eau Claire Northstar privilege of being one of the 308 students who are members Kaukauna River View of the WSMA Middle Level State Honors Choir, Orchestra, Fort Atkinson and Band. Thank you from the 2005 WSMA Middle Level State Honors Staff. 3 2005 WSMA Middle Level State Honors Choir Randal Mc Chesney, Conductor Randal Mc Chesney is currently President and Executive Director of the Richards Institute of Education Through Music and Assistant Adjunct Professor, Music Education, University of Southern California School of Education in Los Angeles. Mc Chesney has volunteered teaching time each Wednesday at Magnolia Elementary School, Los Angeles’ largest elementary school in the heart of its urban core, while currently serving as conductor and music director of the Cedar Rapids, IA Concert Chorale, the chorus for the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra, a Grammy Award winner. He also has served as advisor in two Presidential administrations for childhood literacy and education affairs. In addition, he has held appointments at the University of Southern California School of Music and Fresno State University. Lydia Adams SATB McGroarty Publishing - MMP-03 (P.O.P.) 4 2005 WSMA Middle Level State Honors Orchestra Randal Swiggum, Conductor Randal Swiggum is in his seventh season as Music Director of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, the largest and oldest program of its kind in northwest Illinois, and recently recognized by the Illinois Council of Orchestras as its Youth Orchestra of the Year. Swiggum has enjoyed a diverse teaching career that has spanned first grade general music, high school choir, college orchestra, music theory and conducting.º As composer, conductor, teacher and advocate for young people in the arts, he has established a reputation for musical excellence and a commitment to music education through performance. A frequent guest conductor of music festivals, he most recently conducted the first-ever Pennsylvania ACDA/PMEA All-State Junior High Choir, in addition to the Singapore American Schools Music Festival, MENC All-Northwest Honor Choir in Portland,
