The traditional examples of architecture offered by the province are varied: temples and mon- asteries ranging from the Tang to the Qing dynasty in the sacred Buddhist site of Wutai Shan, and the preserved Ming and Qing style residences of Pingyao, just to name some of the architectural gems of the province. Going to Shanxi is an absolutely integral part in any serious study of Chinese architecture, and for anyone who is inter- ested in exploring the unparalleled marvels of aesthetics and engi- neering of traditional Chinese architecture.
