We now have the final plans and are costing out equipment and furnishing items as we go along. Many decisions remain to be made, particularly regarding interior design specifics. Based on what we know now, the total cost should be in the neighborhood of one million dollars. Our by-laws require membership approval of expenditures over one million dollars for a specific action or project. If our projections continue to be close to or exceed that number, we plan to conduct a vote of the membership on approval of expenditures for the At Ease Club renovation coincident with the Board election at the Annual Meeting. Your Board has approved our new Five Year Plan. As always, we have taken a conservative approach to outlining our plans for the future. The Plan will be the main focus of our Quarterly Forum on October 30, 2013. As you know, the downturn in real estate that began in 2008 and the buy-back program have had a significant and negative effect on IRCC. At this point, I want to thank Nancy Bartlett and Four Star Real Estate for their service on our behalf. As I write this, we know that our real estate closings for our Fiscal Year 2013 totaled in the mid- sixties against a previously projected forty-five. To date, Four Star has demonstrated enthusiasm and innovativeness as our Real Estate Department and I pray that will continue to be the case. T. J. (Jim) Moseley Chairman From the General Manager Though we are through the height of hurricane season it is still imperative that all of us continue to be ready to act should one approach our area. That preparedness includes having supplies to last you a minimum of three days if you stay, or plans on when you’re going to leave and where are you going to go if you choose to evacuate. I continue to hear how you have to have a reservation in order to eat at the Club and I cannot stress enough that that is incorrect. We still prefer reservations if you know you are going to eat dinner on a particular day because that helps us schedule the right labor force for that night. But if you are sitting at home and don’t feel like cooking we hope your first choice is your Club. So please do not hesitate to come to the Club for dinner even without a reservation. We will get you to a table and provide the service you deserve and should expect. Now that I have put a gap in the speed bumps in front of the Pro Shop we will be keeping an eye on how fast people are going in that area. This is a very busy area with people moving about on foot, bicycles, and in carts so it is inherently dangerous especially when carts are speeding through. I know that many of the snowbirds did not have to deal with the solid bumps, so those of you who did might make it clear that it was not pleasant but it was effective. Trust me when I say I don’t want to put them back up, I travel that way every day multiple times. But safety is of the utmost importance and if it becomes unsafe then it will become necessary to go back to the solid bump. I have always heard very nice reviews on the club and the service; and now I am hearing very nice comments about the noticeable improvement in food quality. This is one of the changes we made ahead of the renovation, another being more attention to detail on cleanliness. There are even more behind the scenes changes that have been made. So if you have not been to the Club lately, come on in and see if you notice these great improvements. Enjoy the fall weather in Florida!
