4/16/2021 Job Bulletin Mobility Division Internships and Veteran Fellowships DEPARTMENT: MTD - Metro Transit DIVISION: Mobility SALARY: $17.78 - $32.17 Hourly LOCATION: King Street Center - 201 S Jackson St, Seattle JOB TYPE: Intern or Veteran Fellowship CLOSING DATE: 05/02/21 11:59 PM SUMMARY: King County Metro’s Mobility Division will be filling seven (7) paid internship positions available to veterans and both college and graduate students during the 2021-22 school year (beginning in Summer 2021). The qualifications, benefits, and salary information below applies to all the positions. Computer equipment to allow for virtual participation until Covid-19 related stay at home orders are lifted and employees can physically return to the office will be provided. Specific information for each of the seven positions follows. Minimum Qualifications for ALL Internship Positions: Interns must be college students, graduate students, or veterans: 1. Students should be pursuing college or graduate level degrees in business, public administration, transportation management, urban planning, or a related field 2. The successful Veteran Fellow candidate will have similar skills and background but do not need to be in a college or graduate degree program A strong interest in public transportation and the desire to make a difference in King County's transportation landscape by promoting the use of transportation solutions that get drivers out of single occupancy vehicles Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and visual communication skills Ability to work effectively in teams, collaboratively and respectfully with a diverse group of individuals from various positions and backgrounds Self-starter with the ability to take direction and work independently following through on multiple priorities and assignments in a fast-paced and agile work environment Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to learn online software quickly Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Additionally, Interns/Veteran Fellows will accrue .025 hours of paid sick leave for each hour in pay status. Veteran Fellows who work 30 or more hours/week for the duration of their assignment will also be offered medical benefits under the Affordable Health Care Act. Interns/Veteran Fellows are not eligible for retirement, holiday and vacation pay. Specific Salary Ranges Undergraduate Interns: $17.7796 - $22.5365 per hour Graduate Interns: $20.0181– $25.3742per hour Vets 4 HIRE Veteran Fellows will be compensated at a range of $17.7796 - $32.1655 depending on military rank and education level. Veteran Fellow I - $17.7796 – $22.5365 per hour - High School graduate; or pursuing BA; or enlisted grade E4 or lower Veteran Fellow II - $20.0181 - $25.3742 per hour - Possess BA; or pursuing Masters; or enlisted grade E5 or higher Veteran Fellow III - $25.3759 - $32.1655 - Completed Masters or Officer rank Each student intern or Veteran Fellowship assignment will involve a set of customized learning objectives and deliverables that provide hands-on experience assisting with and accomplishing specific work tasks or projects within each work group. Marketing Internship Position: Section within Metro Mobility Division: Customer Communications & Services Who may apply: Currently enrolled graduate students – enrolled during the entire internship except for the summer. Veterans who have left the military within the last five years and reside within King County will be given preference. Length of Internship: Year Long – June 2021-June 2022 Work Schedule: Students: Up to 40 hours / week during summer; up to 20 hours / week during the school year. Veterans: Up to 40 hours / week. The Metro Transit Marketing and Promotions team is a medium-sized work group made up of five marketing professionals who strategize, design, produce and launch campaigns, and events, in addition to creating both digital and print materials. Responsibilities of staff include project management, copywriting, campaign strategy, material design and distribution, and working with a variety of team members and vendors to complete their tasks. This is a dynamic work environment where no day is the same and everyone is continuously learning. Description of the Marketing Internship Position: Under the guidance and mentorship of professional marketing staff, the selected Intern/Vet Fellow will gain hands-on experience by assisting in the development and execution of marketing and promotional campaigns for the nation's seventh largest transit agency (in terms of daily ridership). Interns/Vet Fellows will design and apply creative approaches for messaging to targeted, diverse audiences. Additionally, the selected candidate will: Assist with varied forms of outreach such as direct mail, web, paid media, events, and social media. Write copy for multiple formats such as marketing materials, social media, and reports. Assist with creating visual communication pieces using tools of graphic design (or work with a graphic designer), layout, infographics for print and web, and will work on various language translation and translation review processes. Assist with development and implementation of social marketing and other strategies to inform and influence travel behavior. Use evaluation tools to assess market penetration such as surveys and social media analytics. Work with professionals from different disciplines within and outside Metro, including staff from local jurisdictions (cities), non-profits, and outside vendors such as copywriters, graphic designers, and direct mail and fulfillment houses. Coordinate in-language public transit educators to attend events and assist with community engagement.
