Printed in the U.S.A. letter from the chairman s Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Palace A Theater, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this organization, and enthusiastic about its future. Committed to fostering the Palace’s success, the Board of Directors is currently working on a new three-year Strategic Business Plan, which will chart out the artistic, organizational, and financial goals for the theater. Focusing on expanded arts and educational programming, marketing, capital projects, and financial development, the objective of the plan is to continue expanding our current entertainment initiatives and ensure financial sustainability and growth for the Palace for years to come. Artistic success and economic stability help us provide a welcoming stage for both local and national arts groups. While we consistently seek out top-tier productions and popular artists, we also look to foster the next generation of talent, through our partnership with the Waterbury Arts Magnet Schools and our own educational programs. As the arts grow, so do the surrounding communities. The Palace Theater is proud to serve the geographical communities of not only Greater Waterbury, but also much of New Haven, Litchfield and Fairfield Counties. In addition, we serve the statewide artistic community, with our dedication to providing the highest quality entertainment on our Main Stage and in our Poli Club. Thank you for supporting the Palace, attending productions, and providing financial support as well. Without you, our mission of serving as a performing arts center and community gathering place could not be achieved. I am happy to help steward the organization for your enjoyment, and I am delighted to welcome you here. Sincerely, Peter J. Jacoby, MD, FACEP Chairman of the Board palace theater 9 10 palace theater letter from the ceo Welcome to the Palace Theater! While we are still enjoying this season’s presentations on our beautiful stage, it is my great pleasure to announce the 2019-2020 Webster Broadway Series! This upcoming season’s shows inspire us to dream, imagine and laugh, and we hope that you will be as excited about seeing these shows as we are to bring them here. With a glorious new production and thrilling musical score, the world’s most popular musical, Les Misérables, will be coming to the Palace for eight performances in December! From “I Dreamed a Dream” to “One Day More,” the show tells an enthralling story of love, loss, forgiveness and redemption. The 2019-2010 season begins in October with A Bronx Tale, Chazz Palminteri’s autobiographical streetwise musical. This unforgettable story of family and loyalty shows a young man’s search for his own American dream in the Bronx of the 1960s. In a Palace Theater first, we are including a non-musical offering in our season this November, the award-winning smash comedy The Play That Goes Wrong. Part murder mystery, part backstage farce, this play shows us the hilarious (and sometimes nightmarish!) behind-the-scenes happenings of the theater world. Finding Neverland will whisk away the winter blues in March, as we follow J.M. Barrie to the make-believe world of Peter Pan, Wendy and Captain Hook. Based on the film of the same name, this show explores one writer’s dreams and the people who inspired him to create his most beloved work. Our May show will immerse you in post-war Paris, where romance and youthful optimism reign. An American in Paris, inspired by the Academy Award-winning film, features George Gershwin’s soaring melodies matched with spectacular dance sequences in a tale of friendship, art, and love. With more offerings to be added to our season in the coming weeks, we hope that the 2019-2020 Webster Broadway Series will see you back at the Palace, sharing a laugh (and perhaps a tear) with us as we Dream a Dream together.
