PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD Appointment Process: Appointed by Mayor; Approved by Omaha City Council Summary of Du�es: Advises regarding park and recrea�on sites, schedules improvements, recommends program budgets, and advises regarding sale, lease of real estate for recrea�onal purposes. POSITION SUMMARY Under the general direc�on of the Chief of Staff, the incumbent provides administra�ve oversight to all opera�ons and ac�vi�es of the Parks, Recrea�on and Public Property (PRPP), oversees the development and monitoring of the Parks Master Plan; leads staff in the crea�on and development of program goals and objec�ves, provide input and direc�on in the development of comprehensive master and site-specific plans, establishes and maintains collabora�ve working rela�onships and good communica�on with a variety of individuals; and demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and pa�ence. This posi�on is in the City of Omaha’s unclassified service serving “at will” of the Mayor. The incumbent in this posi�on is expected to exercise considerable independent judgment and personal ini�a�ve within the framework of established policies and legisla�ve requirements. Supervision is exercised over professional, technical and clerical subordinates. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Knowledge of the City Code and Charter, City organiza�on and structure, departmental policies, rules, regula�ons, procedures, func�ons, and sources of informa�on and ability to apply these to work problems. Must acquire specific knowledge of Chapters 18, 21 and 37 of the Omaha Municipal Code. • Considerable knowledge of the principles and prac�ces of parks and recrea�on administra�on and experience with applying the principles and prac�ces of public parks and recrea�on management and administra�on, including knowledge of facility, equipment and staffing needs. • Knowledge of current principles, prac�ces and opera�ons of parks and recrea�on opera�ons. • Knowledge of current principles, prac�ces and opera�ons of public property, code enforcement and forestry opera�ons.
