The Culture …3000 years of History… Villa Tuscolana is located in the heart of the Natural Park of the Colline Romane (Roman Hills District), one the most beautiful green areas nearby Rome: an area that offers a fascinating journey into a landscape characterized by natural environments of great value, with beautiful parks and natural reserves, with lakes set among forests, vineyards and olive groves, in an area of just over 1000 sq. km. An area that preserves and witnesses 3000 years of history, of different cultures, of past civilizations and traditions, a unique concentration of archaeological sites with remains of temples of Roman and pre-Roman necropolis and burial monuments, cyclopean walls, amphitheaters, impressive works of hydraulic engineering and villas of the Imperial and Republican eras. In the Marconi square, not far from the historic center of Frascati, it is possible to visit the Scuderie Aldobrandini, site of the " Tuscolano Museum". From Piazza Guglielmo Marconi, walking towards the old town it is possible to reach the nearby Piazza San Pietro (passing through Piazza Roma and Via Battisti) and visit the majestic Cathedral of Frascati, dedicated to Saint Peter, built between 1600 and 1700. In Piazza San Pietro there is the sublime fountain of the 16tth century which is a prelude to another architectural masterpiece: the Church of The Jesus (built between XVI and XVII century), in which there is the trompe l'oeil dome, painted by G. Well, that leaves speechless all visitors. Continuing through via Buttarelli, it is possible to see both the Bishop's Palace of the XV century and the bell tower of the XIV century Santa Maria in Vivario, the old Cathedral of Frascati. The tour ends in Piazza San Rocco, at the church of Santa Maria in Vivario, built in the XII century. Walking along Viale Regina Margherita, the most important street of Frascati (plenty of typical local restaurants called “fraschette”)it is possible to have an amazing view of Rome and to come back to Piazza Guglielmo Marconi. The collection of artifacts from the Museum Tuscolano, located on the ground floor of the property, is one of the few historical collections of the province of Rome and contains a number of materials found at Tusculum, including those recently identified in the Forum and in the Theatre by the Spanish School of History and Archaeology.
