1511 Bonarda Colli Piacentini DOC, Castelli del Duca Story of the wine: Whilst the indigenous grapes of Italy represent a great strength there are occasions when it can be very confusing. Bonarda from Colli Piacentini is in reality Croatina, in contrast to Bonarda from Novara hills of Piemonte, which really is Bonarda. Croatina is hardly found outside the Emilia Romagna region. Historically this variety was given a second fermentation in the bottle so as to give it a gentle sparkle. Vinification: There is 15 day fermentation in stainless steel vats at between 270-290C and a complete malolactic fermentation. There is 9 day maceration.
