The aim of this course is to review the major insights into human genetic history, in the context of our extensive cultural and ecological diversity. Topics will include: history of genetic studies, principles of population genetics, methods of analysis, major findings concerning human genetic history, and relationships between genetic and cultural diversity. * including IEU SEBES seminar series (16:15 – 17:15) Learning outcomes: By the end of the module the students should be able to: - Understand basic terminology and analysis methods in human population genetics - Understand the use of genetics in multidisciplinary studies - Interpret genetic studies and draw conclusions from results - Evaluate cases of interaction between biological and cultural diversity in humans Prior Knowledge: Basic knowledge of genetic concepts is propaedeutic but not required. Most of the course will be understandable also to participants outside of biological disciplines. Individual Performance and Assessment: Attendance at lectures and active participation in the seminar sessions are required. Participants: 25 people maximum. Priority will be given to the PhD students of the Life Science Zurich Graduate School. Open for PhD, advanced Master students and Post-Docs.
