ANNUAL REPORT 2017-18 SANTINIKETAN RATANPALLY VIVEKANANDA ADIBASI KALYAN SAMITY (SEVAKS) 1. DISTRICT DISABLED REHABILITATION CENTRE (DDRC) BIRBHUM: DDRC, Birbhum working since 2009 with the aims and object of giving physical, mental and intellectual development to the Persons with Disabilities(PWDs) in order to prepare them to live an independent and meaningful life with dignity. SEVAKS is the implementing organisation of DDRC, Birbhum from the inception of DDRC in Birbhum, District, West Bengal. In order to make special efforts a stepping stone towards achieving of the differently able in the mainstream society the implementing agency has performed several important activities in the last ten year for the benefit and welfare of disabled population of Birbhum district such as organising different Identification camps, distributing aids and appliances to the Persons with Disabilities (PWD’S), organising special Medical Board and providing therapeutic service to the PWDs by experts. Organising different awareness camps, workshop , seminar and training to the PWDs and their family member. DDRC, Birbhum is always trying it’s best to build an institution of excellence dedicated to the welfare of the Persons with Disabilities by various awareness programme which are just like stepping stone towards our achievement and successful. We should always keep in mind that “Disability is not a curse; it is just another way of living.” 2. IDENTIFICATION/SCREENING CAMP FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (PWD)S FOR AID’S & APPLIANCES: DDRC, Birbhum was organised the Identification camp for persons with Disabilities in collaboration with National Institute for Locomotors Disabilities(NILD), Kolkata and District Administration Birbhum. The Camp was inaugurated by Sri Susanta Bhakat,Hon’ble Chairman Bolpur Municipality, Sri Sushil Kumar Choudhary, President SEVAKS , Prof Dhiraj Ray, Hony. Secretary SEVAKS . 1 Screening camp for aids & appliances held on 8th September 2017 at Bolpur, Birbhum. Screening camp for aids & appliances was organised on 28th November 2017 at Suri-I Block premises Birbhum in collaboration with National Institute of Locomotors Disabilities(NILD), Kolkata and District Administration Birbhum. The Camp was inaugurated by BDO, Suri-I Block and DSWO Birbhum in presence DCPO, Birbhum representative of NILD Kolkata & many other dignitaries. Screening camp for aids & appliances held on 28/11/2017 at Suri-I Block, Birbhum . Screening camp for aids & appliances was organised on 29th November 2017 at Sainthia Block premises, Birbhum in collaboration with National Institute of Locomotors Disabilities(NILD), Kolkata and District Administration Birbhum. The Camp was inaugurated by Sabhapati, Sainthia Panchayet Samity BDO, Sainthia Block in presence of DSWO, Birbhum, DCPO, Birbhum and many other dignitaries. Screening camp for aids & appliances held on 29.11.2017 at Sainthia Block, Birbhum. 2 3. OBSERVATION OF WORLD DISABLED DAY : Among many global problems the problem of the children who need special help is a burning one and it has appealed all human souls that something has to be done for these helpless children keeping this in mind DDRC,Birbhum observed the World Disabled Day on 3rd December 2017 in the premises of DDRC, Birbhum at Santiniketan by undertaking Several activities like sit & draw, recitation and other cultural programme by the disabled. The observation of World Disabled Day programme was inaugurated by the Hon’ble MIC Dept. of Fisheries, Govt. Of West Bengal Sri Chandranath Sinha and Hon’ble Sabhadhipati Birbhum Zilla Parishad Sri Bikash Roy Choudhury in presence of SDO, Bolpur Smt. Sampa Hazra , Sri Sushil Kr. Choudhary, President DDRC, Sri Ratan Lal Surana, Vice President DDRC and many other dignitaries on 3rd December 2017 at Santiniketan Birbhum. Five wheel Chairs were handed over to Children with Special Needs by the Hon’ble Guests during the celebration of World Disabled Day 2017. Sri Chandranath Sinha Hon’ble MIC, Dept. of Fisheries, Govt. of West Bengal handed over a wheel chair to the Special Child at the Observation of World Disable Day programme on 3/12/2017 at SEVAKS, Ratanpally Santiniketan . 3 4. DISHA CENTRE FOR DISABLED CHILDREN: DISHA CENTRE under the National Trust, Govt. of India has been implemented by SEVAKS at Ratanpally, Santiniketan, Birbhum since April 2016 for the Children of Mentally Retarded(MR), Hearing Impaired (HI) In this centre Special Educators, Physiotherapist Speech Therapist, Counsellor, Recreational Instructor and Care Giver are engaged for the education, development and rehabilitation of the Children with Special Needs. Total 22 Children with Special Needs are enrolled in this centre. This centre is running in five days in a Week. and Wednesday & Thursday is the holyday. SEVAKS also provided free transportation to the Children with Special Needs from their residence to attend the centre at Ratanapally, Santiniketan, Various activities were under taken through out from this centre the development of the Special Child. Light refreshment also provided to the Children with Special Needs, The Children with Special Needs are celebrating Children with Special Needs are in the Rahi Bandhan Dibash at DISHA 07.8.2017. DISHA Centre at Santiniketan.. 5. ROGI SAHAYATA KENDRA : SEVAKS running Rugi Sahata Kendra at Illambazar Block Primary Health Centre since January 2017. Two staff has been deployed in the Rugi Sahataya Kendra at Illambazr BPHC . Total 958 patients are enrolled in this Rugi Sahayata Kendra and these patient were benefited through RSBY and Swastha Swathi Prakalpa during 2017-18. 6. CHILD LABOUR SCHOOL : SEVAKS is involved with this programme since 2006 by running several Child Labour Schools in Birbhum district in support of the Birbhum District Child Labour Rehabilitation-Cum- Welfare Society under the Chairmanship of the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Suri, Birbhum. During this year, the 4th Phase of National Child Labour Project has been started (2017-18 to 2018- 19), under which we have got the responsibility to run 3 Child Labour Schools at rural areas of Harmur Thanaghat (Nanoor Block), Jharkadanga (Bolpur Block) and Bilkandi (Nalhati-II Block). Total four staff comprising two teaching and two non-teaching staff are engaged for each Child Labour School under this project and during this 4th phase. Total 140 Child Labour Students have studying in these three Schools. The school starts at early morning and classes continues for Four and half hours. Besides imparting education several other facilities like Vocational Training, Monthly stipends to the students in favour of their Bank Account as supplementary income and Mid Day Meal is also provided to them. 4 Child Labour Students of Jarkadanga Child Child Labour students of Bilkandi Child Labour Labour School under Bolpur Block is celebrating School under Nalhati – I Block is celebrating Republic Day Programme on 15th August 2017. Teachers Day on 5th September 2017. 7. SPECIAL EDUCATION CENTRE: Special Education Centre has been running by SEVAKS at Ratanpally, Santiniketan, Birbhum since 2006 for the Children of Hearing Impaired (HI) and Visually Impaired (VI). In this centre Special Educators and Care Giver are engaged for the education, development and rehabilitation of the Children with Special Needs. Total 14 Children with Special Needs are enrolled in this centre. This centre is running in twice in a Week (Friday & Saturday). SEVAKS also provided free transportation to the Children with Special Needs from their residence to attend the centre at Ratanapally, Santiniketan, Various activities were under taken through out the year from this centre for the development of the Special Child. Light refreshment also provided to the Children with Special Needs, Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP), Taratolla, Kolkata also help by providing technical support to the Staff and Guardian of the CWSN Child. Sri Somnath Chatterjee, Managing Trustee of Nirmal Chandra Binapani Janakalyan Trust also provided financial support to run this centre. 8. ANNUAL SPORTS FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS : DDRC, Birbhum organised an Annual Sports for the Children with Special Needs on 3rd February,2018 at Ratanpally Ground, Santiniketan. Total 37 Children with Special Needs were participated in the Annual Sports in different vents like 50/100 meters run, spoon race, cricket ball throw & musical Chair. The Hony. Secretary DDRC, Birbhum handed over the prizes to 1st, 2nd & 3rd position holders and consolation prizes were also handed over to all the participants in the Annual Sports. SEVAKS organised an Annual
