The cars on show range from the absurd, to the innovative, to the just plain crazy. Undoubtedly, the show is a great opportunity to get an overview of the world’s automotive market and what the industry is focussing on. Mercedes launched their EQC SUV, VW continue to push their GTE hybrids, and BMW premiered the 330e with Xtra-boost. In our view, the OEMs are following the expected route of evolution rather than revolution, by adapting their existing vehicle platforms to accommodate EV drivetrains. While this is a sensible route, it does not capitalise on the packaging benefits that EV can provide, which may mean that the benefits are not obvious enough to consumers to help them decide to make the switch. ^ Babette Wizorek - Additive Addicted Geneva Motor Show 2019 Trend report ©Tangerine Ltd. page 4 Insight 01 Electrifying Platforms Boosted Performance Porsche utilise hybrid drivetrains to further enhance the performance of their Panamera Turbo model. ^ Porsche - Panamera Turbo S Driven Form E-Mobility Audi were showing off the e-tron, which is their BMW Group, Ford Motor Company, Volkswagen vision for the new A5 replacement. While SUV’s are ever popular they often have poor interior space with gratuitous styling. ^ Porsche - Panemera Turbo S Concept to Reality New Future Honda have developed the retro chic E-Concept into the E-Prototype, and from the look of the car it has not been a happy transition. Polestar are a new presence in the motor industry from parent brand Volvo . They were showing off the purely EV Polestar 2. Gone are the well-balanced proportions with great wheel arches. The new execution has a slightly ungainly proportion with caster wheels. The future of mobility will bring massive disruption for the market as we know it. OEMs are desperately trying to find an ownable element for their future vehicles. ^ Floris Wubben - Pressed Tables Geneva Motor Show 2019 Trend report ©Tangerine Ltd. page 7 Insight Nissan IMQ 02 Future Vision Nissan’s IMQ is a preview for the next generation of crossovers and is rumoured to be the replacement for the Qashqai. < Nissan IMQ 40 year old Panda To celebrate the 40th year of the Fiat Panda, Fiat’s Tech Tata concept car re-imagined what a practical, utilitarian but fun, car could be in EV form. Tata want to elevate the perception of the brand and their Micro-SUV concept starts that journey. Freedom is the core principle with customers able to < Tata H2X choose between different dashboards, displays and seat configurations to suit their taste. ^ Fiat - Panda 40th anniversary concept Geneva Motor Show 2019 Trend report ©Tangerine Ltd. page 8 Insight 02 Future Vision Accessible Awesome The coolest concept in show has to go to Citroen’s mini-marvel, the AMI ONE. It is designed to be a low-cost car which can be driven without a license due to its low top speed. < Citroen AMI ONE Luxury Space Renault’s autonomous future is all about premium E-Legend travel, with a private lounge space in which to luxuriate whilst you get whisked to your destination Peugeot displayed their E-Legend concept which is a autonomously. glorious re-interpretation of the Peugeot 504. < Renault - EZ Ultimo This is an autonomous vehicle with a steering wheel and dashboard that hideaway. ^ Peugeot E-Legend Geneva Motor Show 2019 Trend report ©Tangerine Ltd. page 9 Insight 03 Colour of Life Throughout the show it was clear that electrification was not the only green trend at the show. From the lurid to the muted, green was the colour of choice by many manufacturers at the show. ^ Techart - Porsche 911 GT2 RS Geneva Motor Show 2019 Trend report ©Tangerine Ltd. page 10 Insight 03 Colour of Life Green is the new black From deep emeralds and grass greens to vibrant lime greens. Green was the popular hue evident across the show. Instead of trying to hide the contact surfaces, designers have been making a feature of the bumpers by giving them complex ribbing and form. A nice design feature. ^ Fiat Panda Concept Geneva Motor Show 2019 Trend report ©Tangerine Ltd. page 12 Insight 04 Details Everyday Panda The 40th anniversary Panda uses fine horizontal Citroen AMI ONE ribs on the front and the rear of the car would help prevent unsightly marks from low speed nudges. Similar in execution to the Fiat Panda but much less < Fiat Panda Concept useful, as the ribbed areas are recessed and would not touch unless the other panels had deflected and moved a great deal. Nissan IMQ ^ Citroen AMI ONE In a similar approach, Nissan used ribbing to add another level of detailing to the IMQ concept. The concentric ribbing around the wheels looks great, but combined with all of the other features, it felt overcooked. < Nissan IMQ Light Detailing BMW are elevating the interior lighting on their new X7 > BMW X7 Geneva Motor Show 2019 Trend report ©Tangerine Ltd. page 13 Insight 04 Hyper Normal Forcing ludicrous numbers, out of ever more efficient engines and at stratospheric prices, has become the norm. Hypercars used to sit as the halo for only the very few, upmarket car manufacturers. Originally started by the trinity of Ferrari, Mclaren and Porsche, now the number is ever increasing and the exclusivity of the club is being lost. ^ Enis Akiev - Plastic Stone Tiles Geneva Motor Show 2019 Trend report ©Tangerine Ltd. page 14 Insight 04 Hyper Normal Mid-Engine Future Aston Martin presented its new Vanquish and Valhalla. The Valhalla is conceived as the halo car, but to our eyes it is the new Vanquish that is simply stunning. ^ Aston Martin - Vanquish / Valhalla Bugatti Trio Koenisegg Pride of place goes to Bugatti’s La The first 300mph car? Apparently so, if Koenisegg Voiture Noire, the £14.4m hypercar. are to be believed, with the introduction of their Stunning, but the silver tape on the new hyper-fast but not-so-pretty car. tyres didn’t match the price.
