MSP Airport served almost 33 million passengers in 2010, making it the 16th busiest airport in the US. That same year, it ranked 23rd nationally in cargo operations. It landed over 1.2 billion pounds of cargo, according to the FAA. A dozen municipal or regional airports relieve congestion at the MSP Airport by serving private and corporate aircraft. 9 access, access, access FREIGHT SERVICE Minnesota’s freight railroads form a critical part of the state’s multimodal transportation system. The freight rail system is particularly critical in provid- ing efficient connections to markets beyond the state’s borders to locations through- out North America.
