That was for the 2018 Centenary of Nelson Mandela, a two-year program to honour its founder. The vacant title was contested between South African champion Yanga Sigqipo (WBC #34) and Philippines’ René Dacquel (WBC #15). Yanga Sigqibo beat Rene Dacquel on points (split decision 12). It was a bit controversial and the Committee is now trying to see if there are good elements to call for a rematch.
