After many years as a Director and a significant contribution to the sport, Peter Waterman decided not to stand for re - election at the 2014 Annual Conference. On behalf of the Board, my thanks to Peter for hi s time and input during his time on the WPNSW Board. Daniel Bartels was elected to the WPAL Board at the WPAL Annual Conference and resigned from the Director Metropolitan position just prior to the 2014 WPNSW Annual Conference, again my thanks to Daniel f or his valuable input during his time on the WPNSW Board. Bec Rippon was elected to the Director’s position vacated by Peter Waterman and Marg Kaye was elected to the Director Metropolitan position vacated by Daniel. Both Bec and Marg bring significant exp erience in areas of sport development and governance respectively, to the Board. Following the appointment of Tim Hamill to NSWIS, Chris Dyson was appointed to the role of Sport Development Manager. This appointment and change in structure of the role to be solely “owned” by WPNSW, (previously time was divided between WPNSW and NSWIS), has resulted in Chris initiating and overseeing the introduction of a number of programs. The programs including the WPNSW Academy pilot will be able to be implemented in al l areas of the State, to increase involvement and provide for the development of water polo across the many areas where opportunities have been identified. Further changes to office staffing occurred during the year resulting in David Whittaker being a ppointed to the CEO role. David has worked tirelessly since commencing in the role, developing and re - establishing relationships in the water polo community, as well as overseeing the initial restructure of the operations of the office. David’s extensive input and contribution has been outstanding and would be immeasurable by the majority of our members. I would like to congratulate David and his staff on the exceptional work that has been carried out conducting the operations of the WPNSW office. The achi evements, during a period in which there were significant changes in staff and experience, are enormous and in numerous areas which are too many to list. Nick Hodgers WATER POLO NEW SOUTH WALES 2014/2015 Annual Report 5 EXECUTIVE OFFICER REPORT DAVID WHITTAKER It is with pleasure that I present a report on the activities of Water Polo NSW (WPNSW) for the 2014/15 year. I would firstly like to thank the Board for their support and guidance since coming into the role in late 2014. The year has been challenging from an operational perspective with a complete change of staff and a restructure of the business model so as to support future financial viability. As part of the change of focus and direction of the organisation, a Strategic Plan was introduced to Clubs at the inaugural Future Directions F orum held in September. The Board undertook a comprehensive planning process incorporating a strategic alignment with Water Polo Australia. As part of this WPNSW approached the coming year not just simply to administer the sport but to also look towards expansion of development pathways and greater participation opportunities deemed vital for sport. After an initial period of assessment a reorganisation of operations of the WPNSW Office were undertaken with Ashleigh Kaesler and Jess McNamara engaged in administration support roles with the respective responsibilities of Competitions and Events Co - ordination. With the introduced of the Metropolitan Academy Kyle Alp took the responsibility of program co - ordinator. Chris Dyson joined WPNSW in July in a re vamped role of Sport Development Manager. I congratulate Chris on his passion and commitment to the role. During the year Chris has implemented a number of changes to procedures and initiatives to the state pathway programs. In addition evaluation work has commenced on possible participation opportunities. Some of the new Sports Development initiatives introduced during the year are: - 1. WPNSW Academy – skills program designed in partnership with NSWIS and University of Technology Sydney. The Metro program co mmenced late January 2015 and now has close to 200 players from U14 - U18 age groups involved in pool and gym training sessions spread over 5 mornings (7 sessions) each week. The program also incorporates a coaching development element and is planned to be e xtended to encompass the Regional Academies of Sport during the following year. 2. Premier Sporting Challenge – a NSW Government funded skills development program designed for public Schools within NSW. 3. Regional Representative Pathway – redevelopment and exp anded for U13 - U16 age groups which essentially doubled the number of regional athletes involved in NSW squads & teams. 4. State Representative Pathway - extended for U16 age group to have 10 teams selected and hosted a training camp + international carnival involving New Zealand for the Born 2000 (U15) group. 5. Sport Development Internship – program designed for University students to gain real world experience and provide WPNSW Office with additional resources. 6. U13s Development Camp – expanded to accommodate 220 athletes over two weekends 7. Specific Skills Clinics – conducted for Centre Forward & Centre Back WATER POLO NEW SOUTH WALES 2014/2015 Annual Report 6 I wish to express my appreciation to all WPNSW staff on their tireless effort and support in an ever changing and evolving environment. In an effort to develop the functions of the Board, Directors also participated in training conducted by Australian Institute of Company Director which was funded by NSW Sports & Recreation. During the year the following areas of operations have been identified as a focus for continued development. 1. Communication & Co - ordination 2. Participation Growth 3. Commercialisation 4. Player & Officials Development 5. Sustainability of Clubs and WPNSW 6. Connection with Schools & Regional Associations The financial position of the orga nisation is now in a positive position with a number of issues from previous years overcome through trading. There are however challenges ahead with ever increasing pressure of costs and the lack of any real capital to implement growth. From a competit ion perspective the Summer and Winter seasons were once again highly competitive with continued strong participation in all grades and competitions. I would like to acknowledge and express thanks to all referees, coaches, players and the many enthusiastic volunteers from all Clubs that enable competition to function successfully on a weekly basis. Congratulations to the many athletes who gained selection in Australian teams plus those who represented NSW at National Championships. A complete list is cont ain ed herein. Finally, I would like to extend my appreciation and thanks to all Club officials for your input over the year.
