INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT/BACK GROUND INFORMATION The project is for obtaining Environment clearance for building stone mining project (Minor Mineral Quarry). The project is proposed by Mr. Abdulla T T , which is situated at Survey No. 172 of Kodiyathoor Village, Kozhikode Taluk, Kozhikode District , Kerala for an area of 2.0437 hectare . Name of the Applicant Abdulla T T Mr. Abdulla T T S/O Alikutty Thenginthottatil Kalanthode Address Kalanthode Poolacode NIT Campus P.O , Kozhikode, Kerala , PIN: 673601 Mobile No. 9388338600 Email Id nil Need for the project: The objective of the project is the effective utilization of minor minerals in public and priv ate projects coming in this region. Granite (Building Stone) is the most commonly used metal in road, railway track construction etc. Rapid industrialization and growth in infrastructure has made global as well as domestic demand for building stone. Being a construction material, the mineral will be used in local market. The excavated mineral will be crushed into requir ed sizes and made ready for use. The mining project will fulfill its end uses in construction purposes. The mining and associated activities in the mineral bearing areas will add to the revenue of the state through royalty on the mineral . 4 GRANITE STONE QUARRY OWNED BY ABDULLA T T KOZHIKODE TALUK, KOZHIKODE DISTRICT, KERALA, EXTENT: 2.0437Ha, SY NO: 172 Employment potential: The quarry shall provide direct employment to 13 people including technical & professional competent staff experienced in quarrying &allied activities . The working hours at the quarry will be 8hours/day for 300days/year . The employees will be assigned job relating to drilling, the handling of the building stone and waste &other routine works in the quarry. PROJECT DESCRIPTION Topography T he proposed land is mostly covered with native trees, shrubs, herbs, grass, climbers, bushes etc. Th e highest elevation of the lease area is 140 m. MSL and lowest is 72 m MSL. As the proposed area is hill rock, the drainage of the lease area is towards S E. No ha bitants are located in the lease area. Regional geology Based on the study of different section available in the area a tentative stratigraphic has been arrived at which is given below: - Age Thickness (in m) Litho units 1 - 15 Soil and Alluvium 1 - 10 Beach sand and sand bars 1 - 2 Black sticky clay and mud with sheel QUATERNARY 4 - 5 Teri sands and laterite pebble bed 8 - 10 Polymitic pebble bed with grit and clay ----------- Unconformity ------------ 1 - 2 Sandstones with clay beds TERTIARY Lignite associated with beds of bluish 2 - 3 WARKALLI green clay kalnadu clay mine ----------- Unconformity ------------ Crystalline Rock Pegmatite and quartz viens Intrusives PRECAMBRIAN Dolerite - gabbro Dharwars Charnockite - Khondalite (*Secondary Source: - Geological Survey of India - www.gsi.gov.in) 6 GRANITE STONE QUARRY OWNED BY ABDULLA T T KOZHIKODE TALUK, KOZHIKODE DISTRICT, KERALA, EXTENT: 2.0437Ha, SY NO: 172 Local geology The local geology belongs to the regional geology. Main rock type in the study area is charnockite. At places where they are exposed, the charnockite is medium to coarse grained with dark grey quartz. The soil & over burden thickness is varies from avg. 1.2 m. to 0. 6 m. Topographically, the area is undulating. Type of project including interlin ked and interdependent projects This is a semi mechanized open cast mining project. Mineral will be used in the construction works. Building construction and other infrastructural facilities are the areas, where the material will be consumed. The quarry will be linked with a crusher unit available near the complex. The fine mineral is sold to the vendors who manufacture hollow block / solid block and hence they are i nterdependent projects attached to the mining project. Location (M ap showing general location, specific location, project boundary and project site layout) with coordinates The proposed quarry site is in private own land with rocky area at Survey No. 172 of Kodiyathoor Village, Kozhikode Taluk, Kozhikode District , Kerala for an area of 2.0437 hectare . The geographical location of the mine with respect to the boundary p illars of the lease area (extreme most points) is given below: - The site is geographically located between Latitude (N) : 11° 16’55.74 ” to 11° 17’1.06 ” N Longitude (E) : 7 6 ° 02 ’ 20.58 ” to 7 6°02 ’ 26.64 ” E The google map superimposed with project boundary showing location of the lease area is provided in Plate 10 (Mining Plan) . The Key map of the project site showing the location of quarry site is shown in Plate 1 (Mining Plan) . The project site with boundar y pillars and GPS Coordinates of the boundary pillars are provided in Contour drawing attached in Plate 2 (Mining Plan) . 7 GRANITE STONE QUARRY OWNED BY ABDULLA T T KOZHIKODE TALUK, KOZHIKODE DISTRICT, KERALA, EXTENT: 2.0437Ha, SY NO: 172 Details of alternate sites considered and the basis of selecting the proposed site, particularly th e environmental considerations Quarrying activities are carried out based on local geology and availability of granite building stone. The proposed site is a building stone quarry and mineral specific hence no alternate site was examined. Moreover, the land is private own land with rock y area and hence no alternate site considered.
