PROGRAMME 1.1 PREAMBLE Prosthetics and Orthotics is a specialized health care profession, which combines a unique blend of clinical and technological skills. The Prosthetic and Orthotic Professionals assess and evaluate patients, prescribe custom design, fabricate, and fit the orthoses and prostheses. Rehabilitation of persons with locomotor disabilities or neuromuscular disorder is a team work, where Centre of attention are the persons with disabilities. This work requires substantial clinical and technical judgment. Prosthetic and Orthotic Professional does not only provide service to persons with neuro- musculoskeletal disorder and persons with disability, but also it provides service to general health and work related disorder such as foot disorders, fracture, sports injuries, disorders due to aging, tendinitis, muscular pain, aesthetic restoration etc. Prosthetics and Orthotics Professionals play an important role in the comprehensive pre and post-surgical management of amputee and other neuromusculoskeletal disorders. Prosthetics and Orthotics Professionals makes the patient independent, confident and useful member of the society through comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic management 1.2 OBJECTIVES To assess, prescribe and provide comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic management to the individual and the community appropriate to his/her position as a member of the health care team. Be competent to take preventive, supportive, corrective and rehabilitative steps in respect to the commonly encountered problems related to prosthetics and orthotics. To carry out Evidence Based Practice in prosthetics and orthotics Appreciate the psycho-social, cultural, economic, and environmental factors affecting health, and develop humane attitude towards the patients/relatives, in discharging one’s professional responsibilities Be familiar with the various National policies and acts related to empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. Acquire basic management & administrative skills in the areas of materials, financial and human resources related to prosthetics and orthotics Develop the communication skills to establish effective communication with the stake holders Practice prosthetics & orthotics ethics in patient care, service delivery, and research. Develop attitude for self-learning and acquire necessary skills including the use of appropriate technologies. 1.3 ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION 1.3.1 QUALIFICATION Candidate passed 10+2 in science or equivalent with physics, chemistry biology/ mathematics, and English with minimum aggregate 50% marks in PCBE/PCME will be 2 Page 2 ` eligible for appearing in NET-PROSTHETICS & ORTHOTICS – 2019 (NET-P&O-2019) AND admission in B.P.O. Programme on merit basis. 1.3.2 RELAXATION AND RESERVATION 1.3.2.1. Relaxation in Marks for SC/ST/OBC/PwD: Minimum aggregate 40% marks in PCBE/PCME as per the Central Govt./University Norms 1.3.2.2. Reservation in seat for Schedule Caste (15%)/Schedule Tribe (7.5%)/Other Backward Class (27%)/Person with Disability (5%)/EWS(10%) as per the Central Govt. Learning technology and its application for betterment of life of person with disability. Promote research and development in invention of new assistive technology in principle of universal design concept. Awareness and orientation about the various Government Schemes and Polices for proper implementation to needy beneficiaries. Prosthetist and Orthotist can avail employment at Hospitals, Community, National Institute, Schools, and Independent Private Practice. 1.8 CERTIFICATION AS A REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL After successful completion of B.P.O. Programme must be registered as Prosthetist and Orthotist under “Registered Professional Certificate” category as per Section 13 of Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), Act 1992, Amended in year 2000; to work in the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics in India. 1.9 AWARD OF DEGREE After successful completion of all examinations and internship candidate will be awarded with the degree of Bachelor in Prosthetics and Orthotics (B.P.O.) by affiliating 6 University. Page 6 ` 1.10 WORKING DAYS/HOURS Monday to Friday -9.00am to 5.30pm with half an hour lunch break. 1.11 MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION: English. 1.12 DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME The duration of the programme is of four and half academic years (inclusive of 6 months of compulsory internship), which can be completed in a maximum of 6 years from the date of admission to the programme. 1.13 ATTENDANCE The programme will be conducted for at least 200 working days each year exclusive of the period of examination and admission. No student will be allowed to appear for the examination unless she/he has attended at least 80% of total number of classes in theory and 80 % in practical.100% attendance during internship is compulsory. The applications of those candidates with shortage of attendance will not be considered for issue of hall tickets to appear for the examinations. 1.14 UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION Minimum passing marks for every subject will be 50% both in theory and practical.
