Leeswood & Pontblyddyn Age-Friendly Communities Dementia Friendly Communities meeting 12:30pm 6th December 2018 Leeswood Community Centre 1 Attendees: Helen Jones - Older People’s Strategy Coordinator FCC Shereen Devine - Rural Wisdom Project Coordinator Kath O’marah - Resident Jacqui Pattie - Resident Karen Robertson – Resident (& Alzheimer’s Society) Luke Pickering-Jones – Dementia Friendly Communities Lead NEWCIS 2 Background Working towards becoming a Dementia Friendly Community had been agreed as an action within the Age Friendly Community Action plan at the AFC Steering Group meeting in November. Some initial progress has been made through Dementia Awareness sessions: Bethesda Chapel Brownies/Guides Community Café volunteers Leeswood Women’s Guild Luke had discussed with Jo Lane (Dementia Friendly communities Coordinator, Alzheimer’s Society) the best approach for supporting Leeswood & Pontblyddyn (L&P) to receive Dementia Friends accreditation. The proposed approach would be to link with Mold Dementia Friendly Steering Group, to share knowledge, expertise and resources. This approach would enable L&P to work with Mold communications lead, events lead, etc. and the potential to share funding opportunities/events etc. Mold Steering group will cover Mold Luke to confirm approach and surrounding area including Leeswood & Pontblyddyn, Hope, with Mold SG and identify Caergwrle, Gwernaffield, Cilcain, Nannerch, Sychdyn etc and is representative to attend already reaching out to the wider community, working with Alyn Bank L&P SG meeting. The on-line application process needs the following information: Number of people living in the area Actions already taken Dementia Awareness sessions held Links with shops, businesses, school etc The accreditation process would require the group demonstrates it is working in three action areas e.g. Dementia awareness Businesses Schools, faith groups etc. Ysgol Derwen has already shown an interest in Dementia Awareness. Bethesda Chapel is looking to hold a further Dementia Awareness Helen to contact session. Other groups could include the Community Council, Community Council Allotments group. These have been held bi-annually meetings from January to date but monthly meetings will be organised from January 2019 to 2019 progress the Age-Friendly and Dementia-Friendly actions. There was no preference for daytime/evening meeting so meetings in the evening will be held to enable people who work to attend. .
