Signature of Competent Authority in State/UT (with office seal) 5 Foreword stablished in 1952, Providence women’s college is the first women’s college in the Malabar re- gion and it has completed 64 years of service to the cause of women’s empowerment through Eeducation. Every member of the Providence family is motivated by the vision of the college which empha- sizes the holistic development of the person. Our main aim is to mould our students to become socially responsible citizens, so we have been conducting various activities to help our students to become self-reliant, and capable of meeting the future challenges. The history of social service activities in Providence Women’s college is as old as the history of college itself. This is reflected in the mission statement of the college. We have always fostered a genuine and active social concern among our staff and students and their families thus helping them to build a society of justice, love and peace. NSS unit is one of vibrant division of our college upholding its motto and providing the complete space for personality development through community service. It is very difficult task to select 100 NSS volunteers from more than 200 applicants every year. They are selected after finding out their aptitude for service learning through interview. The two units of the college have a membership of more than 200 volunteers each year. The task undertaken by the volunteers in the campus and outside the campus are well appreciated and accepted. The unit has reached a long way and it is exploring in many of the social activities. The programme officer and the volunteers are in search of inventive ideas and implementing them at the earliest. As Pope Francis said” today certainly people need words but most of all they need us to bear witness to the mercy and tenderness which warm the heart, rekindle hope and attracts people to God. The messenger becomes the message of compassion and joy”. Our NSS volunteers tried to be massagers of compassion through various activities they undertook. Adopting colony, construct- ing check dam to lessen drinking water scarcity and to protect a bridge on the Mukkam main road with more than 2000 sacks of sand, constructing toilet, renovation of well at Nadakav colony, natural farming at Poor home, organ, blood donation, a few to mention other than the regular ac- tivities like residential seven camps, nature camps, Seminars, leadership training programmmes, quiz competition, flash mob, medical camps etc.
