Over 22 Connecticut graduate students participated and 15 professional mentors assisted in helping graduate students in their graduate search. Maine State Director Lauri Sidelko (University of Maine) spent much of the spring and early summer of 2017 recruiting an advisory board. The State Director conducted monthly advisory board meetings for planning and training. Monthly e-mail communications have been sent to the state membership to update them on current NASPA and Maine events. New Hampshire State Director Mike Taberski (New England College) reported that the majority of the past year in NASPA New Hampshire was spent reconnecting with state members and attempting to gain members on the state leadership board. A survey was administered in July 2017 to gain an understanding from the state membership of what they were looking for from the N.H. state leadership in terms of events, support, and other “wants.” While the state learned that members were interested in state specific events, the membership also stated that they were more interested in the Regional Conference as well as national NASPA events. Between the survey and other conversations with the membership and leadership, it was also agreed upon that NASPA NH members are connected through other organizations as well (such as the state conduct organization, state housing/residence life organization, and other task forces). It was thus decided that the best option for an event in the past year would be to partner with another organization. As will be discussed in the following report section, the state partnered with the New Hampshire Campus Compact to host a fall 2017 event. During the next year, the state board will continue to recruit members for state leadership with the goal of having a representative from each institution in the state of New Hampshire. Rhode Island State Director Sharon Hay (Providence College) reported on the Rhode Island state award recipients. Richard F. Stevens Outstanding New Professional Award Recipient: Kelly Boutin, Assistant Director, PwC center for Diversity and Inclusion and Coordinator, Women’s Center and Pride Center, Bryant University. Catch a Rising Star Award Recipient: Hailey Flavin, University of Rhode Island. Program of the Year: Extravaganza 2017: Couture Through the Ages, Bryant University. Massachusetts State Director Jason Zelesky (Mount Wachusett Community College) reported that the MA NASPA board continues to send personal, “Welcome to MA NASPA” emails to all new members monthly. The board continues to utilize social media to send important information to MA members, solicit feedback and communicate about upcoming events, job vacancies, etc. In May 2017, current MA NASPA board members met to reorganize and restructure the composition of the board and the election/selection process to be more inclusive, diverse and welcoming. This process will begin in January 2018 with a new board taking office in March 2018 in conjunction with the national conference. MA NASPA continues to provide the state with professional development and networking opportunities to bring members together and address pertinent/topical issues of interest. MA NASPA board members meet monthly Regional Conference Chair David Golden (Merrimack College) reported that the 2017 Regional Conference in Springfield, MA was a great success. The conference had over 540 attendees, including a delegation from Ireland. In addition, there were more than 40 participants in the inaugural Ubuntu Institute, a leadership and pipeline program for professionals of color. The conference also hosted nearly 100 undergraduate Student Affairs Leaders of Tomorrow (SALT) students. The Silent Auction raised over $10,000. There was $35,720 raised by cash and in-kind donations from 19 corporate sponsors and two advertisers. Silent Auction Coordinator Erin Twomey (Quinnipiac University) reported that this year’s 20th Annual Silent Auction took place at the Region I Conference from Monday, November 13, 2017 – Tuesday, November 14, 2017. The auction raised a total of $10,634.38 and had 164 items donated. Folks throughout Region I had the opportunity to place bids on-line through the Bidding for Good platform starting on Friday, November 3, 2017. There was a total of 171 bidders making 1,524 bids. There were 14 professionals that participated as coaches in our Coaching Conversation raffle where professionals could win an opportunity to have a conversation with an expert in a particular area of higher education. This was a spin on our Lunch with Legends program from previous years. New initiatives this year included a set of items that could be purchased outright for $20, and a set of items that bidders had to raise the bid by increments of $20. This was playing off the 20th anniversary theme. Awards Coordinator Matt Heiser (Wentworth Institute of Technology) coordinated the awards process for Region I.
