This year we had 2,012 players registered down from 2,066 in 2018. There was an increase in female registrations from 90 in 2018 to 128 in 2019. Note the total number of female registrations in 2017 was 37. In addition to this there were 73 female player registrations in the female tag competitions. There were 143 teams in 2019 compared to 152 in 2018 in our age groups from Under 6 to A Grade. In addition to the 143 teams there were 5 female tag teams, representing a total of 148 teams. We only had five local A Grade teams with no teams from North Sydney, therefore it was decided to join the Open Age Sydney Conference Competitions. With Manly teams Premiers (Cromer) and the runners-up (Avalon) in the Gold Division and Premiers in the Silver Division (Belrose). Cromer defeated Avalon 15-14 in extra time in the Gold Division Grand Final at Lake Park and Belrose defeated Greenacre 32-24 in the Silver Division Grand Final. Many of our teams played in combined competitions conducted by the NSWRL. Thank you to NSWRL, especially Michael Hanratty for the administration of these competitions during 2019. I would like to congratulate all the teams that qualified for the Final Series, from semi – finals onwards. All our competitions rely heavily on the huge contribution made by Club Volunteers who give up their time to help in some way i.e. Set up the fields and later take them back down, run the canteen, work on the barbecue, clean up the grounds and change rooms, coach, manage, perform first aid duties, act as sports trainers, ground managers and Committee Members of our various clubs. I thank them on behalf of the players and the District JRL. I would also like to thank the referees for their contribution to our District JRL. It is also important to highlight the financial assistance provided by the Manly Warringah Leagues Club which has supported the M-W Junior Rugby League for many years. I would like to thank the Leagues Club Board for their contribution and assistance including use of Club facilities for our fortnightly meetings. If you are not yet a member of the Leagues Club then I ask you to join and take advantage of its facilities and to show our support for the Club’s continued contribution to junior Season 2019 Annual Report Page 8 Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League Incorporated rugby league in our District. The continued financial support of the Manly Leagues Club is paramount to our District Junior Rugby League. The Bendigo Bank at Freshwater is our other major sponsor and I wish to document the appreciation of the MWDJRL of the continued financial support of the Bendigo Bank at Freshwater. A huge thank you to the members of the Manly Warringah Junior Rugby League Board and Executive who also give up their valuable time in running our various competitions. All of these people volunteer at their own junior league Club and also find the time and energy to contribute at the District Level. I would also like to thank each of these people for their support and counsel during 2019. The NSWRL provided administrative support for the MWDJRL with Ben James the Club & Competitions Co-ordinator for the Northern Region and Lauren Coltman in the role of Junior League Administrator of MWDJRL. Both Ben and Lauren provided valuable contributions throughout the year and we look forward to continue to work with Ben and Lauren leading into the next season and through-out the 2020 season. Our appreciation is extended to Stuart Stanton and the NSWRL for their support of our District Junior Rugby League by providing the administrative resources of both Ben and Lauren. Lauren commenced her position after the season had commenced in April but soon proved an invaluable resource of our Junior League. We were able to achieve 100% success rate with accreditation compliance in 2019 up from 61% in 2018, this is a great result and would not have been possible without the work and persistence of Ben James.
