Built in 1442, the Bisse d'Ayent draws its water directly from the Lienne river 1 below the imposing dam wall. The bisse irrigates the pastures and vineyards GRAND of Ayent and Grimisuat, either in the traditional way or by spray irrigation, and ends up in Revouire lake. To reach it, you start your hike on the wall of Tseuzier Dam and then head down into the Lienne valley until you meet the bisse. From BISSE D'AYENT here you can marvel at a piece of history and see the incredible work done by our forefathers, some of whom lost their lives building these canals to the vineyards below. Postal buses can be taken at various points on the route. An extraordinary hike between Tseuzier Dam and the Mayens d'Arbaz. At its 2 BISSE DE SION start, the Bisse de Sion crosses the Lourantze stream over a wooden aqueduct. It then runs alongside Tseuzier lake and leaves the Rawyl cirque through a series of tunnels. The source of the Bisse de Sion lies beneath the waterfalls of the Lienne near to the Gîte de Lourantze, where you can grab a bite to eat. This magnificent route links the Tseuzier Dam cirque with the resort of Anzère. Please note: the Etang bisse follows a mountain path until it reaches Les Rousses (suitable long equipment required). The access to 3 this bisse is possible from Anzère or Arbaz by following the signs for Les BISSE DE Évouettes. The Bitailla (made up of the words “Bisse” and “Tailla”) is very old. The earliest documented reference dates to 1307. The Bitailla runs underground during its initial stretch and then under open sky. Its BITAILLA water is first divided proportionally between Arbaz and Ayent and then Bisse filled between the various villages. The Bisse de Clavau provides a panoramic view of the valley and the 4 BISSE famous terraced vineyards. It was built in 1453 to irrigate the vineyards and is still in use today. It overlooks the Rhône Valley between Sion and St-Léonard. The section through the Lienne gorge is wonderful and provides views right DE CLAVAU over the river. An educational trail highlights the location’s wealth of natural beauty. This bisse is very popular as it is close to the town and the hike is easy to complete. Two snack bars (Le Cube at the Varone wine estate and La Water taken Guérite Brûlefer at the Bonvin estate) provide ideal spots for light refreshments from the Lienne before continuing your walk. It is possible to see the remains from the Partset by walking 15 minutes in the direction of Samarin. TWO BISSES The way back is via the Bisse to the tennis courts of Anzère. It has special “Chemin du Musée” signposts and information MUSEUM TRAIL boards which provide visitors with an insight into the bisses. Several routes are available depending on how much time you have and how much effort you wish to expend. Admission to the Valais Bisses Museum is included with the Anzère Liberté pass.
