Andrea Walsh Curriculum Vitae Born 1974, Stockport, England 1995-1998 Staffordshire University, BA Hons Fine Art 1999-2000 International Glass Centre, West Midlands, Glass Techniques & Technology 2001-2001 Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh, MA Glass and architectural Glass Working in Edinburgh “I am intrigued by ideas of containment, materiality, preciousness and value, which I explore through the box and vessel form. My chosen palette of materials - ceramics, glass and metal - are connected by traditional casting and forming techniques, which I use to make unique objects that are considered, refined, and exquisitely tactile. Contemplating both the individual qualities and direct relationships of these ancient and alchemic materials, each piece reveals a subtle balance and purity of form, and communicates through an intimate scale where themes akin with jewellery prevail such as to hold and to cherish.” Andrea Walsh “Walsh’s work seems the antithesis of the fleeting surfaces of contemporary life and yet the forms are free of the pastiche or anachronism of the self consciously crafted thing. They possess instead what the American art historian Keith Moxey describes as a vital heterochronicity – a capacity to unfold many timeworlds simultaneously through the precision and poetry of the forms.” Amanda Game - Independent Curator, 2014 Andrea Walsh -2- Solo Exhibitions 2018 Andrea Walsh, The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh 2009 Andrea Walsh, Beaux Arts, Bath 2006 Andrea Walsh, Open Eye
