In turn, this past year it you credit with changing your life, but Alpha Kappa Psi has been my duty to pay those lessons forward, by teaching members how to network, single handedly shaped my career as a Cal Poly student. interview, cultivate their own style of leadership, and most of all learn how to rely on others for Since joining this organization my freshman year, I have help. Our brothers come from all over Cal Poly, seeking to gain business skills in a diverse and learned inclusive environment. M Like so many other members, Alpha Kappa Psi became the gateway for me to become more involved in the community and the campus- I suddenly had the confidence and qualifications to not only pursue the opportunities I would dream about, but then achieve them as well. Over my past few years at Cal Poly I have had the privilege of serving in a number of different leadership positions, including being an assistant for the College of Business’s Leadership Summit, and serving as a member on ASI Student Government. However, Alpha Kappa Psi will always be my home, and I will always remember it for being where I have grown the most, and more importantly, where I gained the feeling of self-worth. This feeling of belonging hasn’t come from the titles I have held, but from the relationships I have formed within this organization- something far more valuable then any LinkedIn headline, scholarship, or trophy. When I look back at my career at Cal Poly, Alpha Kappa Psi will by far be the one closest to my heart in shaping who I am today. Fast Facts: Alpha Kappa Psi was founded in 1904 at New York University Warmest Regards, Over 300 chapters worldwide, including the UK, Canada, and Hong Kong Over 300,000 alumni worldwide, and nearly 15,000 current Andrew Bui student members 14th President of the Pi Rho Chapter Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity The Pi Rho Chapter at Cal Poly Chapter was chartered in 1999, with nearly 300 alumni who have graduated from the chapter 4 GUIDING PRINCIPLES Building Brotherhood Our members, from the day they become brothers until the end of their lives, foster a great love of the fraternity and a fondness for brother members. At its center is a sense of duty and respect for both the fraternity and individual members. Lifelong Learning College is merely the beginning of business education. Our members share their knowledge and experiences openly with the people they work with, regardless of rank or position. In addition, they seek out opportunities to share their real-world experience with brother members, and in doing so they enhance the lifelong learning of those members. High Ethical Standards While the business world offers many opportunities for success and advancement, it also requires us to make decisions about how we succeed. Our members serve as role models through their consistently fair and ethical conduct. Improving Communities Much is expected of those to whom much is given. Business professionals who seek to improve the communities in which they do business improve lives and develop goodwill. Enhancing the Fraternity for Life College chapters serve as living laboratories for classroom concepts and professional conduct. In turn, lessons learned in the fraternity prepare members for success in the business world. Because they recognize the value and importance of our Fraternity, our members are united in their passion to build a legacy for the future. 5 PI RHO CHAPTER 6 LEAD BY DOING* Hispanic (*denotes leadership position within organization) Business Student Chinese Korean American Engineering Students’ Student Association Beta Student Association* Association* College Theta of Business Council Pi Peer Mentor* Professional Fraternity Council Cal Society of (Founders) Panhellenic Cal Poly Women Council* Consulting Engineers Poly Club STRIDE Health Accounting Ambassadors Club* Student Library Information Advisory Council Systems Engineering Pilipino Association Student Cultural Council Kappa Exchange InterFraternity Financial Computer Kappa Management Council* Beta Engineering Gamma Association* Gamma Society Mustang Sigma Media Group Section Cal Poly Leaders: Space Zeta Mustang Marching Systems American Beta Band Alpha Marketing SustainSLO Tau Association* Omicron Pi PolyReps Executive Partners Orientation Program* Kappa PolyFit Team Kappa Psi Engineers University without THE ALPHA KAPPA PSI Housing Borders Chi Omega Ambassador WOW Leaders NETWORK AIESEC* 7 David Aguilar Broadcast Journalism Brett Balcer Industrial Technology Allison Barry Management Mairead Blaes Electrical Engineering Andrew Bui Entrepreneurship Christy Chao Accounting Lexus Chiu Marketing Aislyn Cole Information Systems Joseph Curless Economics Matthew Dielman Industrial Technology Jacqueline Myers Economics Sally Eng Finance Kristi Nacino Economics Elliot Fiske Computer Science Kelly O’Rourke Human Resources Management Hironari Fujita Industrial Engineering May Oo Engineering Lalkrishna Gandhi Industrial Engineering Yenifer Origel Accounting Matthew Goldman Finance Akshay Patel Economics Theresa Gupta Accounting Kayla Pedrani Forestry David Ha Business Administration Charlie Phan Psychology Lauren Hennefarth Biochemistry Helen Phan Anthropology Calder Husby Finance Vincent Phua Industrial Engineering Melisa Huynh Nutrition Katarina Quach Finance Courtney Jacobsen Information Systems Kimberly Quant Information Systems Lauren Kuechle Accounting Karissa Ramage Marketing Hieu Viet-Le Finance Joshua Silo Finance Jonathan Lin Software Engineering Elizabeth Silva Environmental Management Graham Lovelady Finance Katarina Soriano Liberal Arts & Engineering Studies Ron Lugasi Economics Thomas Steinke Computer Science Joseph Lundeen Wine and Viticulture Eric Tang Business Administration Patrick Luong Software Engineering Melanie Tsoi Information Systems Sarah Ma Industrial Technology Sophia Vu Journalism Jina McConachie Information Systems Jack Wang Computer Engineering Carl Miller Biomedical Engineering Wayne Webster Sociology Andrew Minami Entrepreneurship Jordan Willis Marketing Jonathan Molina Software Engineering Emily Wong Business Administration Erica Wong Information Systems Samson Wu Economics Lawrence Yang Mechanical Engineering Alex Ye Microbiology D Francis Yuen Computer Engineering Frank Zhang Aerospace Engineering DIVERSE, INCLUSIVE, UNIFIED. Here are some of the firms that have extended internship, leadership program, or full time offers to our brothers. “Emily, I have forwarded all the resumes I collected at the Career Fair over to my HR team and they will start scheduling interviews soon. Even though you are only a freshman and are not our typical major we recruit, I ranked you in the top 7 applications because of your outgoing personality and leadership skills. This ranking alone, you should be proud of because I talked to 100+ students looking at this internship with the majority being upperclassmen and engineering majors. It will be HR’s ultimate decision whether or not to schedule an interview with you but I am confident you will be successful and get an internship somewhere this Emily Wong: Business summer based off of my interaction with you.” Administration Freshman -PEPSICO 11 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT As a professional fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi makes enhancing our members’ professional skills a top priority in its day to day operations- brothers are required to attend at least two events a quarter, although most exceed that requirement with the number of both internal workshops and external events Alpha Kappa Psi hosts.
