Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Charles Munch IrllbalKP JOUR/ i To mark the centennial of the birth of Charles Munch, the Boston Symphony Archives has mounted a display of memorabilia in the Cohen Wing lobby. Using photographs, letters, programs, and other historical documents, the exhibit explores the career of Charles Munch, focusing on his tenure as Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1949 to 1962. In the photograph above, Munch (right) is shown with guest conductor Pierre Monteux (left), himself music director of the BSO from 1919 to 1924, and the train conductor just prior to departing on the BSO's transconti- nental tour in 1953.
