I extend my thanks, in particular to Mrs Bloomfield our D.R.S, for her leadership and to Mr Davis, for the excellent menu he prepared. Apart from the competitive element, it is a unique opportunity for young Catholics to engage in our Catholic faith, which is at the core of all of our Catholic High Schools. JPC RUGBY I salute the players, coach, managers and supporters of our Under XV team and 1st XV, who play magnificently on Saturday to take a place in the finals. This is an outstanding achievement for a co- educational school and has not been done since 2013. SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMME If you, or anyone you know, is seeking to enrol at John Paul College, I urge you to make contact with the St Mary’s Parish office and register for a sacramental programme before we commence the 2020 enrolment process in 2019. I would encourage children to enrol in this course well before Year 6. TRACKING FOR SUCCESS IN NCEA Reports of NCEA results of secondary schools in New Zealand, confirm that John Paul College is a very high performing school and in fact, achieves results at the same level of a decile 9 or 10 school. The N.Z Herald named JPC as the top performing decile 7 secondary school in New Zealand with respect to pass rates at NCEA Level 2. Part of our success story comes from the very close cooperation between parents and teachers. As we prepare students over the next ten weeks to complete their NCEA course, please ensure you continue to monitor your child’s progress and liaise with teachers. TAKING HOLIDAYS DURING TERM DETRIMENTAL TO STUDENT LEARNING It is essential that students remain in school during term time to get the full benefit of teaching. It is detrimental to student learning where parents take a holiday during term, often because of cheap flights. I respectfully request that unless there are exceptional circumstances, that you do not take your children on holiday during term time. The course is run by Patrick Sherratt from Innervate Education and will cover such aspects of study skills as exam preparation, time management and stress reduction. Practices are at Smallbone Park, Devon Street, Wednesday 5 - 6pm. Games are played Thursdays after school and at night. If keen, see Ms Northey asap. FEES A big thank you to the parents/caregivers who have responded to last week’s newsletter in regards to outstanding unpaid fees. There are still outstanding numbers with unpaid fees. The school has paid invoices to BoPHA, Hockey NZ and other related hockey matters. It is unfair to expect the school to paying these invoices! I would like to thank the tireless work that our coaches and managers are doing for our JPC hockey players. They are giving hours of their time to ensure our players are getting the skill development and knowledge to become better and more proficient young sportswomen and sportsmen.
