Ledding Library News VOLUME 18, ISSUE 5 M A Y 2 0 1 7 Milwaukie: A Community of Growers In 1900, Milwaukie had a thriving farming economy. Even though Milwaukie no longer has an economy based primarily on farming, it does have a strong community of gardeners who cultivate fruits, vegetables, legumes, and ornamental plants. This May, Milwaukie's history and love for making things grow can be celebrated, tasted, and enjoyed in so many ways. The Farmers Market begins its season on Sunday, May 7. On Saturday, May 13, plant sales will be hosted throughout the city to raise money for local non-profits and for the Library. Gardening classes by OSU master gardeners are already in full swing at the Library. Also, for the first time, the Library will be presenting a seed swap on Saturday, May 27.
