As we start to clean out our office area and workstations, this is a reminder of the recycling programs available, and how to properly utilize them. BATTERIES: Small batteries are collected in drums or small plastic containers often found in team rooms. 9-volt and lithium batteries must have the terminals securely covered prior to disposal. BINDERS: Binders are collected to donate to schools. Binders must be three-ring, empty and clean. Any binders with stains or damage should be thrown in the garbage. Establish a designated collection area. BINDER CLIPS: Binder clips are donated to schools. They will be collected in small blue recycling bins found throughout the offices in the plant. COILED BINDERS AND NOTEBOOKS (METAL / PLASTIC) Segregate these binders and contact environmental for pick up. ELECTRONICS: Place waste electronics in designated collection area for office areas, or designated bins on the plant floor (damaged, broken, scrap). MISCELLANEOUS OFFICE METAL: Miscellaneous pieces of metal found throughout the office will be collected in small blue recycling bins found in the office areas of the plant. OFFICE SUPPLIES: Reusable office supplies such as sticky notes, pens, pencils, paperclips, thumb tacks, hole punches, etc. can be boxed and held in place for future reuse. WASTE CHEMICALS: For any waste chemicals you may have in your area, you must first confirm the containers are free of leaks. Consolidate and collect waste chemicals in a box or bin with an orange waste label displayed. Contact Robinson or see Environmental for labels. Include any labels or identification that the chemical may have. Contact Environmental for pick up. BINS AND CONTAINERS: For empty containers or bins contact Resource Management. If your bins are full, contact Robinson for them to be emptied. As vehicle production wraps up at Oshawa Assembly in preparation for the new parts business, we would like to offer employees some commemorative keepsakes that honour Oshawa’s history through the years. Employees will have the opportunity to take home a special edition T-shirt and a Commemorative Yearbook. Group Leaders will be recording shirt sizes and will also mark down whether employees would like to receive a commemorative book following the end of production. On Thursday, November 8th, the Tank Museum will be stopping by Gate 4 and CTC—Oshawa Campus with some World War II vehicles. Members of the ONTARS and members of our Military Employee Resource Group will be on site. The Legion will also be at the Oshawa Assembly Plant Gate 4 to canvass for poppy donations. Oshawa Assembly Gate 4: A Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) will be on display at the Gate 4 parking lot entrance between 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. CTC—Oshawa Campus: A Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) will be on display in front of the building between 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. CHQ: All day—the 1942 Chevrolet Staff Car from the Tank Museum will be on display inside the Concourse. STAFF VEHICLE: This 1942 Chevrolet represents the more than 90,000 staff cars of several types that were built during World War Two. Although the sale of cars to the public was curtailed during the war years, production was unabated for passenger cars for military use. Shipped throughout the world for use where the terrain would permit it, they would be equipped with black out curtains, guns, fire extinguisher and other military equipment. This vehicle was made at General Motors in Oshawa and is a proud representation of General Motors support of the war effort. Ontario Regiment Museum ARMOURED VEHICLE GENERAL PURPOSE (AVGP): Website: Back in 1977, the Canadian Government ordered three armoured fighting vehicles for the military, which would later be named the http://www.ontrmuseum.ca/ Grizzly, Cougar and Husky. Rather than build them from scratch, it tankmuseum/ was quickly chosen to derive these from the six-wheeled version of 1000 Stevenson Road North, the proven Swiss MOWAG Piranha I. This modular basis was used for Oshawa, ON the development of a fire-support/trainer vehicle, the Cougar, an armoured personnel carrier, the Grizzly, and an armoured recovery vehicle (ARV) to assist both, the Husky. The Cougar entered into service in 1976 and stayed active until 2004 when the vehicles were gradually retired and replaced. The Cougar was used both for training and as a reconnaissance vehicle and the armoured units employed it as a fire support vehicle. The Cougar was used by the IFOR/KFOR in ex-Yugoslavia.
