The University rf Dayton News Release PABLO CASALS TRIO TO APPEAR AS PART OF UD ARTS SERIES DAYTON, Ohio, Nov. 17, 1989--The tradition of chamber music will be celebrated in the University of Dayton's 1989-90 Arts Series when the Pablo Casals Trio appears on campus on Monday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. in the Kennedy Union Boll Theatre. Tickets for the performance are $10. Tickets may be pur chased at the Bol l Theatre box office which opens 45 minutes before the show. Heralded for their artistry, members of the Pablo Casals Trio are Jurgen de Lemos on cello, Larry Graham on piano and Os wald Lehnert on violin. All three members of the trio are on the faculty of the University of Colorado in Boulder. Now in their lOth year together, the artists tour extensively throughout the United states, South America and Europe. Additionally, they are featured at home and abroad with symphony orchestras in perfor mances of the triple concertos of Beethoven, Casella and Moor. For the UD Arts Series appearance, the Pablo Casals Trio will perform "Trio No. 1 in G Major" by Franz Joseph Haydn, "Trio Op. 67, No. 2" by Dimitri Shostakovich and "Trio in E minor, Op. 90 'Durnky'" by Antonin Dvorak. The trio gained its name following a visit with Pablo Casals in 1973. Casals, generally considered the world's foremost cellist and one of its most respected conductors, invited de Lemos, Lehnert and Paul Parmelee (then the trio's pianist) to his home in Puerto Rico where he worked with them on chamber music technique. Impressed with the trio's playing, he gave them permission to use his name for the ensemble. Casals died later that year.
