He realized his dream on February, 11th 1990 when he took a photo of Mandela, who had just been released / freed from prison (jail). He had spent 27 years in prison. He had become a symbol of hope and optimism for South Africa. David was excited / thrilled. It was the strongest / the most powerful moment of his carreer. It was an emotional/ moving moment because it was the first time Mandela had given a speech in 27 years and people hadn’t seen him for a long time. The media played an important role because the photo was published worldwide / all over the world. It helped fight apartheid. Activity 3 : Read the “Did you know?” and find out why Mandela was imprisoned. This photo shocked the world so it helped change public opinion. Trace écrite Prod élèves The document is a very famous photo. This photo was taken (passif) by the photographer Nick Ut. He took it on June 8th, 1972 in South Vietnam. Kim Phuc, who was 9 years old, was screaming (yelling) because a plane had just dropped napalm which had burnt her. A few days after, readers worldwide discovered that the photographer had helped the little girl and had taken her to the hospital. Thanks to this photo, public opinion changed and all US military had left South Vietnam by the end of 1973. Personally, I think that this photo is shocking / chilling. Under the message, there are numbers 355,108 is the number of likes. 780,325 is the number of retweets. What about the date? The tweet was sent on November the 7th 2012 at 6:16am. Trace écrite The document is a dialogue between Alex and his mother. Alex’s got a Twitter account. He tells his mother that there are more than a hundred million users. Alex’s mother is surprised that people can say interesting things in only 140 characters. Alex follows artists such as Simon Cowell of “America’s got talent” or Katy Perry. Simon Cowell said in one tweet he would present the next season show. Katy Perry told her followers she would give a concert in Wembley and that she cycled in France for her summer holidays. Alex’s mother thinks that’s not really interesting. She’s ironical when she says that 140 characters are quite enough when you haven’t got much to say!
