DAY 1 (Thu) Guayaquil, Ecuador/Lima, Peru After the flight from Guayaquil, you’ll be welcomed to Lima by our local representative, who will assist you to the modern Costa del Sol Wyndham Lima Airport hotel (or similar), conveniently located steps away from the Lima Airport. This full day of travel ends with a presentation detailing your upcoming days of adventure—then settle in for a good night’s sleep. DAY 2 (Fri) Sacred Valley/Chinchero Arriving in Cusco after an early morning flight, begin your journey into the fabled Sacred Valley with a visit to the traditional weaving town of Chinchero. Descending into the valley, have lunch at a charming private estate filled with pre-Columbian, Inca, and colonial artifacts. After checking in at Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba (or similar) for your two night stay, take advantage of the hacienda’s activities before dinner—a trail hike, bird watching, making traditional Inca beverages, or relax while taking in the surrounding mountain views. (BLD) DAY 3 (Sat) Sacred Valley/Ollantaytambo Dive deeper into the Sacred Valley, on a guided walking tour of Ollantaytambo—laid out as it was in the 1500s and with its original structures. Ollantaytambo has been inhabited since the time of the Inca’s and is the best example in the region of a living Incan town. Learn of the strategic and religious importance of this hill town from the top of the ruins with sweeping views of the Sacred Valley. Stroll the town’s narrow streets, with time to soak up the history and visit the markets. After lunch at a local restaurant, return to the Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba to relax and enjoy the spa facilities, explore on your own, join an optional hike or other onsite hotel activity. (BLD) DAY 4 (Sun) Machu Picchu Celebrate one of the top destinations of world travel. Boarding the Vistadome in Ollantaytambo, join your guide on a journey through mountain forests and steep peaks, once part of the powerful Inca Empire. Arriving in Aguas Calientes, walk to the serene Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo (or similar) for pre check-in and an Andean lunch. Then it’s off to tour the crown jewel of the Inca civilization—Machu Picchu—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. A leisurely hike to the Puente Inca, or “Inca Bridge,” rewards with panoramic views of Machu Picchu. Explore the ruins, navigate colossal stairways, admire temple architecture, and view the impressive terracing. (BLD) DAY 5 (Mon) Machu Picchu/Cusco The morning is your choice: relax and sleep in or catch a Machu Picchu sunrise. Later, discover a new viewpoint of the site and surrounding mountains on a hike up to Inti Punku—the “Sun Gate” and the terminus of the Inca Trail. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can brave the steep climb 2,000 feet higher to the top of Mount Machu Picchu overlooking the citadel, Huayna Picchu, and the Inca Trail. Wrap up an adventurous morning with lunch at the hotel’s Café Inkaterra before you soak up the dramatic landscape on the train back to Ollantaytambo.
