COMMUNITY TRANSPORT Individual Members Needs Survey (Appendices) INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS SURVEY – APPENDIX A Free Text responses to Q7 "Do you feel individual travel needs are met by the services available? - If 'no' then what other local travel needs do you have?" 1. A good bus service 2. A mobility scooter 3. A Sunday morning service there and back from church. We don't have a car so having to get to church before 10 O clock am is difficult, as we live on a hill. 4. A vehicle which would take shopping in Broadmead 5. Always late and often do not turn up. 6. Ambulance for visits to hospitals or taxi 7. Any others 8. Appointment times, pre-booking 9. As explained don't drive due to medical history. 90 bus stop was great when it came to Jarmans (Leinster Ave) as you could reach some hospitals via this bus. 10. As explained I have not used Dial-A-Ride yet but expect to do so in the future. 11. As I haven't been able to use it yet I can't pass comments on it but I know a neighbour who uses it & they arrive at the same time every week, so I would say, time wise they are very good. 12. As in No.6. 13. BDAR could not offer the service that was requested. We were told to book a week in advance. They only go to shops etc. LWCT - this seems to be a club. Regular users are openly hostile. 14. Been on Mede support bus 10 years ago for my mother she had illness. 15. Better Bristol Bus Service for Lawrence Weston. 16. Better hospital service & return. 17. Booking was a problem, evenings and weekends not available. 18. Bus 19. Bus or car belonging to daughter in law. 20. Bus pass 21. Buses for work and local taxi firm for other running about. 22. Car sometimes, if I can because it needs to run. 23. Carer assistance. I am housebound & disabled now. 24. Clifton has none - Only a bus 8 or 9 which is good when it comes but not often enough. Born in Clifton and as a child and teenager, bus ran every 2 mins. Roadworks in Whiteladies Rd, Blackboy now means no bus from top of Blackboy Down to BBC, St Pauls Rd. I waited 30 mins at Clifton Down Precinct beofre realising this. Please could 8 & 9 run more frequently. 25. Dial-A-Ride only operates within a certain boundary and you can never book when you want them, used them twice about 4 years ago. 26. Difficult to fit with times I need when I phone. 27. Don't know have not been out on my own for over 2yrs. Hospital appointments etc doctors, dentist. I have just come home after 2 wks in Frenchay Hospital fell in bedroom & fractured my hip, still walking around on sticks. 28. Dr. Local Hospital 29. Evening and weekend travel non existent 30. Evening transport from dial a ride to theatre etc. 31. Family transport 32. For the local area's travelled to, to be a wider area, like Kingswood, Cribbs Causeway and to operate at evening's & night 33. Friends & family when available 34. Greater availability, especially with regard to frequency and ease of booking. Page A1 | A1 | INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS SURVEY – APPENDIX A 35. Have not tried 36. Haven't used the service in a long time; as I have my free bus pass. 37. Health appts as above. Dentists - (6 mthly). Hospital X-rays, consultations, eye problems, cataracts etc. Opticians (annually), shopping Cribbs Xmas etc, banks W-o-T. 38. Hospital 39. Hospitals, I use eye, Frenchay and BRI hospital. They wouldn't take me here. I feel they should go to local hospitals. 40. I always use Park & Ride. 41. I am 83 - I have lost my hearing (profoundly deaf). I am totally dependent on my husband. The first bus drivers are not trained to deal with DEAF passengers. That is why any form of community transport - for essential journeys is so important. A personalised service is too costly but regular trips at regular times from regular pick up points would be most welcome. The drivers get to know our disabilities and are understanding. DEAFNESS is a hidden disability & is very under-rated. 42. I can never get the service as the service is never available at the times I need it or to the Destination I need to go to. 43. I can never get through to Dial-a-Ride so have had to walk 44. I cannot book any of the services. They are always fully booked. 45. I don't use it anymore 46. I feel I don't get enough service i.e to take me shopping etc. I would like the transport to take me places so I would become independent again as I rely on everyone else as I am in a wheelchair. 47. I find difficulty acquiring any of these services. There appears to be very little advertising of these facilities. 48. I have a driving license but because of ill health and finance, can't drive. 49. I have been a member for many years, but find whenever I wanted transport I could never get it. It cost me more in telephone bills than I can afford so I gave up. Since I've been a member I only was lucky twice in as many years. 50. I have felt for a long while now, through lack of good doctors interest & being sent to the pain clinic (Frenchay) in the first place where eventually I went not two months in Southmead Hospital where time was wasted, where I had an injection into the trapped nerve, which relieved me of bad pain & when I moved to the left, I lost my balance & fell over. This was never examined & it got worse. Even now I have a lump at the lower side of my left knee is out of place. No pain there. 51. I have my own car 52. I have recently recovered from a femur fracture and at 97 years of age would like this to have been more help. 53. I have severe mobility problems so need to use a wheelchair. I use the ambulance transport for my hospital appointments but am now confined to the nursing home. I would love to go out. 54. I have to pay for taxis. 55. I have to use a mobility scooter as I cannot walk far and the bus only runs every half hour - it is impossible to book Dial-a-Ride as the phone is frequently engaged and when one is eventually connected all available slots have been taken. I have not been able to use Dial-a-Ride for more than a year. 56. I haven't used the service as my husband (driver) retired, so we could manage alone. Unfortunately he has now got glaucoma & on coming cataracts. I need help because of spinal trouble & have to use a 3 or 4 wheel walker or rollator, would it be possible for my husband to travel with me? He now doesn't drive in heavy traffic. 57. I receive lifts to and from to Buddhist centre from friends Page A2 | A2 | INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS SURVEY – APPENDIX A 58. I should like to explain my particular needs. I am in my 70's & having treatment for cancer. I also have other health problems. I rely totally on family & friends for transport to 2 hospitals, doctors surgery & also for shopping. If my family could not take me to hospital or doctor it would be very difficult & I should like to see some sort of transport available other than having to rely on very expensive taxis. I would be willing to pay a reasonable fare for this service. 59. I tried Dial a Ride to go to Hospital three times and they could not pick me up. So I had to have a taxi which I cannot really afford. 60. I would like it extended to Cribbs Causeway. I live in Westbury-on-Trym! 61. I would like to visit my sister's who don't live in district. Also shopping. 62. I would like transport to take me to my GP and health centre and to do my shopping and to clubs. Booking transport was not convenient. 63. I'm very close to the bus station and can access buses to any local area. 64. Information about bus frequencies 65. It was much better when No.78 went straight down Hartcliffe to Bedminster & Broadmead. 66. It would be good if Dial-A-Ride could be used at a time suitable for passengers instead of trying to book and finding no suitable slot is available. 67. It's not always been possible to book when I wanted to use the service, which leaves me a bit stuck. 68. Local bus services do not give access for people with disabilities having to be able to walk to bus stops (unreliable service). 69. Local buses, first bus sometimes erratic. Does not always follow timetable. 70. Local taxi service 71. Mobility Scooter 72. More places to go and see - Bath, W-s-M, Wells, etc. 73. Morrisons Supermarket - Lidl. 74. My travel needs can only be met by BDAR but only week days. 75. N/A 76. Need to get to Kingswood, cannot use pass owing to recovering from borowig on hip. 77. Need to travel in neighbouring local authority area. 78. Never asked before (applied) 79. Never available when needed.
