He worked on weevils at the National Insect Collection of the Plant Protection Research Institute in Pretoria, South Africa, for 17 years, mainly on the subfamily Entiminae but also on several other groups. For his Ph.D. degree he studied the systematics and biology of the African cycad-associated weevils, an interest that followed him to Australia in 1997. There he continued taxonomic research on broad-nosed weevils (Entiminae and Cyclominae) but also on some taxa of economic importance. He authored and co-authored a comprehensive catalogue of Australian weevils and several chapters on weevils in the Handbook of Zoology, as well as papers on weevil fossils and phylogeny. With almost 40 years of experience in weevil systematics, he has a broad knowledge of the weevil fauna of the Southern Hemisphere. Adriana E. Marvaldi is as a research scientist of The National Scientific and Technical Research Council
